Cost of Ownership Used 2007 Fit 34 Months (almost 3 years)

Purchased at 152000 miles
Purchase price $3950 (A little high but this is the car I wanted and I needed a new car right away)
Sold at 217700 (about 65700 miles)
Average miles per year 22310 (433 miles per week)
Average MPG 31.30
Ave Cost Per Month $303.12
Ave Cost Per Mile $.163
Equivalent Lease $113.34 a month (I've never leased a car but this number includes repairs, maintenance, and registration fees... It does not include insurance, gas) This is a purely imaginary number as I couldn't possibly lease something for nothing down and put over 20k miles a year on it.

All work done to the car was by me except the airbags were replaced under recall and aren't listed.

Total Costs $10700.01
Gas $5421.06 2096.6 Gallons at an average price of 2.58
Maintenance $951.86 (Brakes (pads rotors), fluids, filters, bulbs, batteries, spark plugs, wipers, gaskets for valve adjustment, belts, tires)
Repairs $614.60 (includes basically anything not under maintenance section of manual)
Other $3703.44 (Includes purchase price-sale price (depreciation), taxes, registrations, inspections, other fees, insurance, and unnecessary upgrades (trailer hitch & roof rack)

2017 (152000-154600 2600miles 2 months) $4906.75
Gas $218
Maintenance $46 Oil, Oil Filter, ATF Drain and Refill (aftermarket fluid), Air Filter, Cabin Air Filter
Repairs $0.00 No Repairs
Other $4635.75 Purchase, Registration, Taxes, Inspection, Insurance

2018 (154600-181500 26 900miles) $3430.13
Gas $2762.51
Maintenance $546.37 Passenger Headlight Bulb, Battery for Remote, Oil Change X 3, Spark Plugs(fake from ebay), valve cover gasket, wiper blades, antifreeze, front pads and rotors, serpentine belt, snow tires, rear brakes(shoes, drums, hardware, wheel cylinders), brake flush
Repair $275.75 Rusted Cooling System Clamps, #1 Ignition Coil (note fake ebay sparkplugs), waterpump (bad pulley bearings), sway bar links, ac pulley bearing, passenger side half shaft, passenger front ball joint
Other $709.50 Roof rack and Trailer Hitch, Inspection, Registration, Insurance

2019 (181500-202800 21300 miles) $2958.53
Gas $1841.45
Maintenance $303.49 Windshield Wiper, All season tires, Oil and Filter X3, ATF drain refill (aftermarket fluid), cabin air filter, air filter
Repair $314.18 Two Ignition Coils (see fake spark plugs), Transmission Mount, Front Control Arms, Crank Sensor
Other $479.19 Inspection, Add on Transmission Cooler, Insurance

2020(202800-217700 14900 miles) $-1001.23 ($1098.77 without sale)
Gas $1037.10
Maintenance $37 Oil Change X2, Front Brake Pads
Repair $24.67 Both Outer Tie Rod Ends
Other $-2100 sale price

Hopefully I didn't mess up transferring any numbers. The moral of the story is it was a very cheap car to run. I may have slacked a little on the maintenance in 2020 before I sold it but other than needing front brakes(friction components) , oil change, and maybe another atf dump it was good to go other than rust.

Anyone have a rust free 2007 Sport Auto they're looking to bring to NY?

Thanks for sharing! That's a bit more in repairs and maintenance than I expected, but it's a pretty high mileage car and you drove a lot. I got mine at about 100k miles so let's see what happens. I'm only planning on doing input shaft bearings once it gets a bit warmer.

Unfortunately rust in that spot seems to be very common on these, though I don't have that (yet). Is there a known weak area? Can anything be done about that preventatively?

Edit: if I calculated that correctly, you gout about 31mpg? Is that mostly city driving?

Interesting reading, thanks for posting!
$2100 sale price for a high mileage rusty 2007 Fit is pretty good going, is that generally what they sell for in your area?

That area is prone to rust in many modern cars. Mud and dirt from the rear wheel accumulates around the mounting point of the rear bumper, then temperature changes and vibration stress the paint and after time moisture gets to the metal. And then its just question of time that it spreads to be visible from outside. The damage can be delayed by applying suitable anti corrosion agent to the area behind the bumper and especially around the mounting point when it is still clean and rust-free, and then flushing the area regularly to prevent dirt accumulating into the seam area.

I would say I did well on the sale I was aiming for over $1500.

Truthfully at that age and milage they go to the junkyard around here especially with any problems. I would guess that it only had a year and a half left with my driving habits.

To answer the earlier question I calculated 31.3 mpg. I do a lot of short trips of 20 or less miles on rural roads with quite a bit of small town trips. It got 41 mpg on my trip from NY to FL
