Transmission Shudders at Highway Speeds

Hi Everybody,

I have a 2008 AT Fit Sport with about 43,000 miles on it. Starting several months ago, I noticed that at highway speeds (55- 65mph,) on flat ground, the car will shudder (or "jerk") every once in a while (anywhere from a couple times a minute to one every 5 or 10 mins.) I assume it's a problem with the transmission, but I could be wrong. Stock car, I'm not into modding or anything like that. Regularly serviced according to Honda's service schedule.

Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

Search the forum for coil pack problems, which seem to occur starting at ~40K miles or so.

Does sound like a coil pack problem...Read the VERY LONG thread about it, "Constant Speed Stutter".

++++++++++++++++

But, if you are sure it's the trans:

Have you done all the transmission-related services as specified by the Maintenance Minder (MM)? Just askin' because if the MM was reset, one of the other codes could have been overlooked.

Previous to the MM, Honda recommended that auto-boxes have the transmission fluid drained at 30 - 36K miles...and every 24K after that.

Remember, that Honda automatics are picky about the ATF fluid used. OEM DW-1 ATF seems to work the most reliably.

A marginal engine thermostat could cause the trans to resist locking up, too, if it's running too cool...
