Which lug nuts on Mini Cooper Steelies

Mini Cooper steel wheels are less $ than most other options so I am getting them but wondered if I should use the original lug nuts or get the mini lug nuts. I don’t know if the threads are the same and I don’t know if the shape of the nut on the OEM lug nuts will sit well on the Mini Steelies.

Thoughts?

Bump on this if you can help. I ordered the wheels and tires and they will be here next week.

there seems to be a strange variety of lugs that work. most appear to have a 60 degree angle to them ... perhaps an acorn/tuner type would do the truck

(now would be a good time to double check with someone that owns a mini cooper, like a friend? co worker? random person off a mini cooper forum?)

I believe they're an acorn/tapered design... Not sure of the angle though. Just be sure to inspect the seats for the lug nuts before buying a set!

Also did a quick image search using a MINI specific chassis code (R50, R53, R56, etc) and I keep seeing acorn/tapered styles like those attached below. Even with that said, I'm curious if you can even use a typical 19mm similar to the factory McGaurd lug nuts or will have to downsize to a 17mm lug nut.

This is from the Mini dealer site. WHEEL BOLT BLACK. M12X1,5. It does look similar to above. So I need to get a “nut” with this type of taper. I will do a bit more poking around.

Thanks for this. I think there are several different lug nut styles but this link looks to cover all mini’s include the original (non-bmw) which are different.

These look like they have the correct taper, size and threading…

This one was lined in another thread from 2011. The design appears to have more threads due to the area that extends past the cone mating area.

This is from the link above. I could not add it to my original post for some reason. Sadly they only have one set and it is another month to ship more.

I ordered the Amazon version. I will follow up as the Mini Steel wheels are about least expensive option going.

Our weather had been decent so I had not yet mounted the new snows yet. I checked out the lug nuts today to see how they meshed with the mini wheels and they don’t fit. The outside dimension of the lug nut thread extension will not pass through the bolt hole sadly.

I guess I need to find some without the extension part.

Just a quick update if anyone wants to run factory Mini Cooper steel wheels. I ended up with Mcgard lugs and locks. They are longer than need and look like nipples

They do however fit fine otherwise.
