Fit in its first track outing
Fit in its first track outing
Following my plan to potentially B-spec convert the Fit, I did some more baseline testing at an open track day a couple of weeks ago. Here's some video from two different sessions and two different views:
Laps as seen from external camera. (GoPro rattle spoiled the sound on this one.)
Laps as seen from internal camera.
Got passed a lot, but that's not surprising given no prep for the track -- essentially stock plus some summer tires (General Altimax -- not a great tire) -- and I was the only subcompact in my run group.
My best lap was in the 1:32 range, and given that my S2000 runs 1:25-1:26 on the same track there's a big difference in performance.
Playing around with tire pressures tamed some of the worst understeer, but it's still a very different animal to drive on track than the very neutral, RWD S2000. It was fun -- occasionally scary fun -- though I wonder if continuing to tweak the Fit for the track is really worth it given that despite massive tweaking the stock S2K will still stomp it. On the otehr hand, the Fit will be much cheaper to run ...

That's a rather tight and narrow track and it looks like the major challenge is to avoid washing out into the grass. Almost all of the turns were right-handers, too - save for the never-ending left before the timing beam. How badly worn was your left front tire afterwards? As for tweaking the Fit for the track...I know Spoon campaigned a few GD1 Fits in endurance racing a number of years ago and they did very well there. The fuel economy gave them a distinct edge and they ran reliably. I can attest to the fuel economy as I still make 9 km/L (21 mpg) hot-lapping around Batangas Racing Circuit, and a full tank of gas will get me to the track, let me practice and drive, and get me back home.
Lastly, I'm just surprised that GoPros still rattle when all the while I thought they would not...looks like that's an inevitability with mounting cameras on a car?
Nice run bro
The Fits Handel great stock i use to dip on my stocks once i got new tires the Eagle GT and my car rides like a so much better hugs corners very well! but i probly wont go with the eagle gt again there a little heavy so i lost a few mpg im only get 29-31 city now : / its ok tho still good
my stocks were 18 lbs each they were 185/55/16 my new egale gt are 24 lbs each 205/50/16 : / next set im getting is Potenza RE760 Sport there 21lbs each 205/50/16 witch is not bad i guess compared to 24 each plus the egale are a lil too road noise
i know alot of poeple running DSW there like 19 lbs 205/50/16 im not a fan of the dsw but the company does make some comfee tires

LOL -- the left front was pretty chewed up on the shoulder, the result of me running it down on pressure to handle understeer. I'll rotate tires before doing another event on that set, assuming I don't spring for something stickier.
The GoPro rattle is fixable, and supposedly has been fixed in the later camera models. I have an early Hero 1 and it has gradually gotten worse over time. I just haven't gotten around to doing the surgery to fix it.

I think you'll find that just a set of sticker tires will do wonders for your GE. That's basically all the modification I did on my own GD, as otherwise it's bone stock
Are the Altimax tires stiff on the sidewall or rather soft? I had a set of Kumho Ecsta SPTs that I ran for four trackdays, and they really needed the added air pressure as they steered sluggishly and understeered badly around Clark International Speedway due to very soft sidewall. I have stiffer 195/50 R15 Michelin Pilot Sport 3s now and they handle the same track much better.
You also might want to firm up the rear tire pressures to combat understeer...just a suggestion.

Wow... Fits with understeer???? I nicknamed mine spinderella... Lol oversteers every turn. 70mph drifts are pretty fun in the fit. But goes through tires pretty quick.
but i have a ton of suspension and some areo.
