Hello,

I have the following issue:
1. SOMETIMES when I start, especially from cold, the whole electrical system goes down (screen goes black and comes back up), and the car is unable to start.
2. The check engine light then blinks 5 times.
3. After the check engine like blinks 5 times, i can start fine. It doesn't need to try hard, starts instantly and smooth.
4. The car has no issues while driving. the engine light only ever blinks on start (sometimes).
5. I thought it was the battery so i did the 151R to 51R conversion. Behavior exactly the same...

Any ideas?

Do you have any codes? Run a scanner on it to see if you can catch the code while the check engine light is blinking.

Maybe the fuel pump is having issues with priming? It could be issues with push button start as this is very common.

 

I guess i will need to buy a scanner? which one do you recommend?
My car is manual and does not have start button.

 

Scanner is definitely a good investment. It can save you lots of time, frustration and money.

I have a pretty basic one which is the middle of the line Bosch. At the very least you should pick up a basic one for $25.
If you don't want to buy one go to the local auto parts store and have them run the scanner for free.
