I would like to trade out my tail lights but it seems like you should be able to change them without taking off the bumper.

You have to take off the bumper. Front and rear if you want to take lights out.

you DONT have to remove the rear bumper to change the lights. With a long enough screwdriver you can get that screw for the light. HOWEVER it is easier to just remove it.

Incorrect don't need to take off the back bumper to take off the tail lights.

crawl under the back bumber with a screwdriver (doesnt even have to be long) but better if it is and a flashlight and you will see the screw and there is plenty of room to stick your hand up there and unscrew it

yeah u don't need a long screwdriver. I used liek a 12 inch one and my hand and a flashlight. U will easily see it and remove it.

Wiring is done inside the car / trunk, so it has nothing to do with taking off the bumper or not..

As for a screwdriver... bust out the longest one that you have and see if it works.. if not... just take off the rear bumper! It sounds harder than it is..

I just changed mine, I used a regular screwdriver and a flashlight (you do not have to remove the bumper or cut/extend the wires) your most important tool is patience.
