Exclamation Worst Luck Ever..

So after waking up at 9 am on Saturday morning and spending 2 hours washing my car thoroughly for the very first time, i come back from the mall with water spots all over my car. I thought no biggie although i was disgruntled that every time I wash my car, something annoying seems to happen.

I get home and attempt to take the water spots off with my between car wash spray cleaner and the spots won't come off. I tried to clay bar eventually after nothing seemed to work and it started to come off but I don't want to rub the paint too much.

Does anyone have ideas about how to get these water spots out safely?

Desperate,
Brian

what color car? the darker the car, the harder to hide imperfections.

I'd try and wax it up first, if that doesnt help then use a clear coat safe polishing compound (if one even exists, not sure if one does).

And in the future, always dry the car off ASAP, and never wash it in the direct sun.

waterspots?

If they're truly waterspots then another washing certainly ought to get rid of them. If you got into "something" then the claybar certainly should get it. You might need a stronger abrasive if the claybar fails. My BBP shows waterspots horribly but I avoid them by washing at dawn. You might seek advice from a professional detailer before rubbing your paint too much. A lot of tiny scratches in people's paint was caused them rubbing their car improperly. Good luck and be careful!

ok. i see a few words thrown out in this thread.

first of all, if there is water spots, a wax would only build up over them. wax adds layers, compounds subtracts layers. rubbing compound, glazing compound. are all things that are like using sand paper, yet are in much higher grits than most sand paper.

if they are waterspots, washing the car SHOULD get rid of them. if you let your car dry in the sun, you'll get water spots. so, by re-washing, you should get rid of them. a clay bar IS an abrasive. always wash your car in the shade or before the sun comes up/sun goes down. and wait till your car is cool.

and, you are correct, most, if not all peoples cars are scratched because they mis-handled it. NEVER touch your car unnecessarily. never lean on it, none of that. the darker the paint color, the easier you will see these scratches and such.

good luck.

Wash the car with a mixture of car wash and white vinegar. Usually gets rid of water spots easily.

You have no idea what bad luck is if you think that's the worse luck ever... it's unfortunate, I'll give you that, but trust me, much worse things can happen

that happens to me all the time, my car is parked on the street so the sprinklers hit my car, leaving water stains, its like someone spat milk on the car or something, it takes a long time getting it off,

try washing the car using that special ice washing soap, about two times, and then wax it down with meguires, u might see some small shadow water marks, but eventually they go away by the time u wash ur car again

as far as the water spots, you can douce a towel with vinegar and
set it over the panel. you need to keep it damp for a good 5min to
eat away the calcium.

give it a shot. patience is key.

If you are going to use vinegar and water, make sure you wax after you are done.
Otherwise here is what I used.

And here is a write up about how to remove water spots.

Vinegar will remove the water spots but if you want to protect your paint from water spots in the future, a good wax will help. Check out www.autopia.org (forum) for lots of good detailing advice as well.
