Did you remove the retaining clip first? Is the cable disconnected?

Be patient. I had to use a pair of pliers to twist mine out the first time, but once I saw how it was supposed to work it was easier after that.

i just used a cresent wrench and forced it to twist out. nothing broke. righty tighty and lefty loosey will help you.
