g/f spilled dairy based soup, carpets reek!

Carrying soup in a car in a cheap styrofoam container is never, ever, EVER a good idea. My g/f just learned the hard way.

About a quart of dairy based soup has spilled all over the carpet in the right rear footwell. I pulled up the carpet tonight to get rid of any residual fluid, but obviously the carpet got soaked and the odor persists. It is nauseating. Any tips on cleaning? I have a Bissel carpet machine for the house, I guess I'll try the small extension on it this weekend.

Yay me.

Oh man - that sucks big time - sorry for you. White vinegar soak out of the car is your best bet. Use it to clean the under carpet areas as well. Steam clean w/ a white vinegar solution - not sure about the bissel. Lucky it wasn't on the dash or console.

I cannot remember what it is called but most professional detailers use an enzyme liquid for cleaning cars with puke/bile and other nasty smelling substances. I think it's what febreeze was based on but the pro detailer version is much much much stronger. I used it when I was detailing during the day while in the military working at night. Worked really well for hurricane damaged cars with salt water and god knows what else.

I would check out some detailer suppliers for this, it would probably be a really good way of getting the stench out.

step by step instructions, just in case it happens to someone else:

1. absorb soup with damp towels
2. steam clean area with Bissell
3. allow to dry
4. apply liberal amount of Natures Miracle to spill area
5. allow to dry
6. advise g/f to not carry soup in Honda FIT ever again
