Flashing D & Surge Idling

Flashing D & Surge Idling
Hi all, I've done some searching on the Flashing D and have seen numerous responses that seem to relate to the Engine Management Light coming on.
Have a 2006 sport model, that has developed a flashing D and the idling surges between 1000rpm & 2000rpm when at a stand still.
Does anybody have any ideas what the issues may be?

Flasahing D
I've had that issue on my '08 A/T Sport. So I'm assuming that your CEL (check Engine Light) is also on at this time. If you can, try and get the code from your CEL with a code reader (OBD, Ultragauge or any code reader that is compatible). It should give you an idea of where to start.
Mine tripped a P0847 code. CEL light would come on, D light blinking and paddle shifters would not shift to 5th.
Here's a thread that might help: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/1st-...-low-help.html
Good luck! And welcome aboard!

Flashing D & Surge Idling
Cheers m8, I've not had the CEL light come on (Sorry should have made this clear in original post). I seem to have all gears, and able to select all through the flappy paddles too.
As said in original post, only issue I've noticed is that the engine revs when at stand still seem to surge between 1000rpm & 2000rpm.

Hmmm... How long has this been going on? Hey that's a song.. Anyway, maybe it'll throw a code sooner or later. Flashing D and the surges you describe are definitely not normal.
BTW, if you stay in D, 5th is hardly noticeable. Might want to check by going to S mode then go through the gears with the paddle to verify. Just a thought.

Surge Idling & Flashing D
I'm still no closer to solving this, discovered I had a small leak from the oil pressure pipe on the Automatic Transmission this has now been repaired and oil levels topped up due to the losses.
I thought this might have solved the flashing D but has not, as the car has not thrown up a CEL would the flashing D need resetting using code reader etc? I have checked via manual shifting that I definately have all gears so no issues there.
Would love to know what causes the surge idling too, only happens when stopped at lights etc and holding the car on the footbrake, if held on the handbrake then idles normally at around 800rpm.
