0/1 AWG cables......

great forum so glad i found it..... again.
had read about buying 205/50/16 tires on this forum a year or so ago to avoid having to purchase the factory sized 185/55/16 which, are stock on the sport & over priced.

i ended up purchasing some Kumhos escata from tirebuyer.com and they have lived up to the recommendations.....better ride, good grip & wear and hardly changed my speedo or odometer....thanx

i have read short clips/ threads of owners intstalling 0/1 AWG cables proporting 0/1 awg cables increased their performance/mileage?

i'm an old school retired mechanic and understand that extended length cables for a starter, draw too much current (amps) so 0/1 AWG cables for a starter would be easier on the starter and actually help the alternator charge the battery efficiently.....i'm still in the dark as to how it would help mileage?
ECU cars have many ground connections and making sure these are clean & tight keeps the system form developing false codes...at least it did when i turned for money......someone enlighten me as to how 0/1 AWG cables increase performance/mileage.......other than for starter amp draw or charghing efficiency to battery.

thanx....

GMD

charging efficiency reduces alternator use.

More stable voltage at the battery means sensors are sending similar signal strengths at all times.

The idea is its a minor change for a very longterm overall improvement in the vehicle.

I tend to do it to all my vehicles at one point or another

okay.....sensor voltage is usually about 5-7 volts DC.....guage voltage is usually the normal 12 vdc ......I appreciate the reply but i can only seen an advantage with the starter amp draw or alternator to battery voltage.
sensor voltage efficiency would be negligible unless every other engine/body ground strap was also upgraded to a heavier cable size.
i haven't looked over the engine compartment yet so i really have no idea if honda uses the braided pigtails as ground straps else where in the system.

i'm not goning to be fool enough to dispute you without sufficient knowledge of the wiring loom...but my opinion, which is superficial believes without all the other grounds being upgraded the advantage for this upgrade is minimal...though i'm going to check out the wiring diagram and do a visual on the engine compartment..
if I fall into finding some old welding cable from an arc welder for next to nothing, i'll upgrade the main batt cables.

BTW....the battery is a storage battery......does not produce electicity....when any accessories are used these are supported by the alternator in combination with the battery static charge of 13.2-14.2 vdc. that alternator is gonna be used, meaning a drag on the engine until any accessory is turned off no matter what size cable is being used or as voltage drops in the battery..........thanx..........

go to this site for an interesting "discussion" on this very subject. (mostly on the second page). When you read it how about posting your thoughts. Be warned the Fit has an internal voltage regulator in the alternator and an ELD system that also regulates the alternator output.

I think upgrading the wires tends to help the vehicles performance as well, I hope its not just a placebo.

It is. Unless you are having problems with bad cables replacing them does only a miniscule difference.

thanx lougbang,

most all autos since 1976 have had internal regulators......using my crusty memory.....
i'm still sticking to my guns...larger cables only help to reduce amp load /starter draw for the starter in extended cranking situations...that is when the cable to starter is also 0/1 awg. the normal battery to ground & alternaltor to + battery cables with 0/1 awg cables would help charging efficiency but the amount would not be worth the cost/labor.
BTW, nice work on the math and essay explaination debunking myth .........SO, bigger cables on my ride means...." I have a big cable too?"....LOL!
another myth busted and the placebo affect goes limp......
