Interior Backlighting Short?

Interior Backlighting Short?
I have a 2008 Fit Sport A/T with a little over 113,000 miles on it. A few months ago while driving at night, I noticed that the hazard light button wasn't illuminated (the little red triangle by the vents in the center of the dash). If I tapped on the button a few times, it would come on and usually remain on. Within the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that the letters by the gear selector aren't illuminating when I have on the headlights. If I tap on the plastic strip containing the letters, it will eventually come on. Interestingly enough, it seems that the hazard light button backlighting has been working just fine recently.
I've done some searches, but have come up with nothing.
Anyone else have this issue with the interior backlighting shorting like this? Any suggestions as to what can be done?
In the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal, but it sure is annoying.

I was initially going to say it's a fuse but since tapping fixed it, that couldn't be the case.
It's possible the wiring is messed up or the bulbs are going out, many a times the bulb will come back to life by tapping since that makes the filaments touch each other again.

It's tough to fix an intermittent problem... You can't fix what isn't broke. If you can pinpoint the problem on the shifter, I'd start there. You might have two problems but you should only chase the shifter one first.
