Safe to Drive P0847

My '07 Fit just threw the P0847 code today. It drives ok. It doesn't seem to go into 5th gear. Problem is I have no other mode of transportation and have to drive to and from work as well as a 250 mile trip on Wednesday. I have an appointment at the dealer for Friday. Today is Monday. Am I going to ruin the car?

It's happened with other members as well, https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/1st-...-low-help.html

I'd personally suggest not to drive it too long distances, especially since it's not going in 5th gear also.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I saw the other thread but wanted to see if driving it was a bad idea. The guy at the dealership said "you can't mess it up more" but to watch it. What does that mean??

I wouldn't drive it normally but I'm kind of stuck at this point. Maybe if i stick to the back roads and take it slower?

Assuming it is an automatic.

1st to 4th give no problems at all? Correct?

I guess it is 'fine' to drive it. Just make sure the gearbox isn't leaking or anything that would cause major failures. 5th is dead so that raises a little concern as to the condition of the rest of the tranny. Not sure if 5th gets disabled as a direct result of the pressure sensor failure(?)

Hope some other FF'ers chime in.

The PCM (ECU) blocks shifting to 5th gear when 3 gear pressure sensor fails (the 3/5 gear clutches are located on the same shaft)
the 40 mph rpms in 4th gear are close to 2500 so they will be around 3500 at 65 mph
This should not damage engine but the fuel economy will be lower.
The diaphragm inside of the switch fails, so the oil is getting on both sides of it thus no pressure difference exists and switch cannot make connection

Today it ran on the highway fine and shifted into 5th gear. I'm going to rent a car for the 250 mile trip to be safe. I would attempt to fix this myself but I have no ramps or anything as well as proper tools. What's the dage at the dealership on this repair?

Thanks for all the info everyone!

I have the same issue, but the funny thing is that when i gave my car a rest i had no problems shifting to fifth gear. just when i put it in sport mode shifting doesnt let me go above 4th.

i also got a 61-1 reading when i went to get the codes read at autozone. IDK if this is a side effect. Ive had this issue before and it has gone away whenever i got an oil change.

overall im kinda annoyed by hondas ATs. I love the fit, but these little issues drive me crazy
