Best HP for daily driver k swap
Best HP for daily driver k swap
I have a 2008 Honda fit and I’d like to k swap at some point in the future, it’s my daily and I’d like to keep that way. But I want to be able to have some fun with it. My goals are to keep it relatively good on fuel, I’d prefer close to 30 but as long as it stays above 20 it’s fine. I want to keep it na as I think thatll Be best for reliability and fuel mpg. One idea I had was to build the engine in a way where I could have 2 tunes, one to daily on and one for when I want a little more kick, so basically build the engine above what I need so it’ll handle the miles and the high hp tune sometimes, I do want to keep this long term. I’m going to put in a 6 sp trans and lsd as well.
summary in order of priority
1. Daily driver
2. Fun ie: handling over absolute speed
3. MPG
4.HP number
lmk if this is a ridiculous idea
also I’d appreciate help with a parts list.

Except if you are looking for fun or a daily driver you sure don't need a K series.
Another new member late to the party with K series dreams that has done no research on their own. It's $10,000+ custom swap. Not for the light wallet. Or people asking the internet how do do something. Nobody makes a bolt it kit so you better have a ton of extra cash to spend. Or are good with the fab work. Which if you were you wouldn't be asking the web for a parts list...

Yes Hasport makes the mounts. But the rest of the swap doesn't bolt it like the older Honda swap stuff. Lots of wiring and fabricating. Because these never came with a K series anywhere in the world. Hence why not many people do them from the start, there is only a handful of K swapped 1g Fit's at most on this website.
Because a "bolt-in kit" really doesn't bolt in to anything. Without a ton of other work.

HaSport does indeed offer mounts for K20 and K24s to be used in conjunction with the RSX and 8th gen SI transmissions BUT that kit is dated and even Brian at HaSport/VTEC Academy admitted during one of the VTEC Academy live stream that the kit needs to be revised and updated to work with additional transmission options/combos that have come to market since that kit's release.
Following that, there are currently NO plug and play options for engine harnesses for GDs or GKs nor do jumper harnesses exist for them. You'll have to acquire the correct harness from a donor car and a PCM that can run the engine at minimum to get the car going. Any additional simple data displays or creature comforts like gauge cluster, A/C, cruise control, retaining the immobilizer system and maybe a few other snippets that I'm forgetting is all CanBus based and requires that system to be retained so it functions. If you live in an area that requires OBDII port testing, you WILL need to retain this if you want to keep the car road "legal".
Unless you are comfortable with doing wiring yourself and/or doing a large chunk of the labor then this could put a nice dent in your budget. Add with that, you WILL need a K swap header fabricated or modify pre-existing header as well. Along with get a shifter and shifter cables that work with your chosen application.
Honestly, if you're interested in handling more than speed just work on prepping the chassis with a good suspension combo (possibly even the caster adjustment kits be it Honed or Tailored Chassis Solutions with BC Coilovers), Progress rear sway bar, a good set of brake pads/shoes and a damn good alignment with 205/50s on 15x7s or 205/45s on 16s. Follow that up Hondata, one step colder spark plugs, a least a catback exhaust, boost like Unequal Fabrication's turbo kit or find a used turbo kit or Kraftwerks supercharger kit and finally an upgrade clutch with either a stronger pressure plate and/or friction material to handle the increased torque load. You can still get upper 20s and low 30 MPG when commuting and still have a reliable daily driver with 150 to 180 WHP depending on setup, tune and engine health... Just try not to exceed 180 WTQ as that is nearing the limit of the connecting rods.
And we will have to repeat ourselves again when the next new member with K swap dreams joins the forums.
People think that just because some company out there make mounts then the rest of the swap is no problem. Better find a new chassis if you want an easy K swap project. This swap is pretty much for professional fabricators and or shop owners. Otherwise you will be upside-down in the costs of the fab work to get it finished. It can be done in your home garage. But probably not by the people asking an internet forum about the absolute basics. Like where to even start with such this sort of project.
Stick with the breaking and handling for bolt on performance. You and your wallet will be much more satisfied overall.
