Cool Advice

Please stay away from the Stock Drop In if you can at all. Put some BOXERS on your FIT and let her breath!

Hope this lays it out a little simpler for ya!

Smile Drop in

I guess you would have to open your stock box to see for yourself. This is the best advise I could give you. Have you seen a CAI / SR / CHAMBER intake before? Wouldn't you rather have your car breathing through one of these? IMO stock boxes are only in place to keep engine noise down and suffacate your engine. Hope this helps.

Peace,

I understand that an aftermarket intake should produce better than stock box. But what you are saying is a drop in is totally worthless and does absolutely nothing which is where you are wrong.

Of course it depends on the make of the car and more importantly, the design of the box itself. Take for instance the stock NSX airbox. it is by default a flat element filter like that of out cars and civics. K&N makes a great filter for it. However realtime racing figured out that the shape of the box is ideal in its stock form and replaced the flat filter with a cone filter. This then greated a sort of charged air chamber and creates quite amount of power for a stock box.

So the box may not be as bad as some say it is. but yes conventionally an intake system is supposed to make more power than a stock box but there are always examples that dont hold true to that.

There are plenty of good reasons to retain the stock air box assembly. You can delete the major pre-filter restrictions with an air box easily that helps a lot.
Also, an intake is NOT going to give you a lot of power. It is often a combination of the right parts and a tune.

If one were to install a CAI and fart pipe alone the gains would be minimal.

If you were to install a good header, cat-back exhaust, intake, cam, and a tune; you would notice a nice increase. Also, because of the tune it the power band would be smooth. With all of these mods combined the total power gain depends on the engine.

Using a drop in filter or after market intake helps increase flow and thus helps to add efficiency in getting more power. Some better than others.

i know this is a jimmy rig, i did notice that it helped out a lot.

usually for the broke guys, or for cars they dont have intakes for.

for the drop in type filters i just keep the lid, and then partially the bottom piece of the intake box. the bottoom part holds the filter in place, while the top part clamps down.

well i just cut a big fatty chunk out of the bottom, and wala i got myself a short ram. normally i just put the k&n drop in, and call it a day. it help me improve gas mileage on my v6 camry. and the bonus side, its still carb legal, because when the smog inspector looks at it, it still looks like a stock intake...because he cant see the bottom part is missing.

you can call it dumb, but for those who just want the intake noise and the better throttle response, i definitely feel a better pull when vtec/vvti kicks in aswell, so it sure does help.

It works great too! That is what I had in mind however cutting a hole in the bottom and stuffing a venturi into it but my bubble has been popped. I've read the rules for SCCA and the H Stock class. You cannot remove any of the intake :-(. I will stick to the drop in with full air box. I really want to auto cross.
