$40 Homemade Short Ram Intake
#122
Finally got mine sorted, hard to find the right stuff in the UK, had to get some aluminium intercooler piping from hong kong as it costs a fortune over here. Will get it all polished up soon!
Think I bought the biggest filter in the world as it only just fits in!!

Nice job we have similar sized filters and that is a cooler area under the hood. But I have only one bitch it's much harder to get at the top of the coolant overflow to top it off... I have to do some contortions and end up with the back of my hand forward and my palm facing the filter and I can use my finger tips to turn the lid off BUT IT'S WORTH IT FOR SURE.

Jeeze Ivan don't give me up that easy. Blame it on Dave the manxman he's using voodoo, some spell, or hypnotism on me and it's making me mellow out. Besides Tofuman was on the right track about the system he was just a little off on the location. But it's good we all understand everything now.

All of your setups are nice. What I'd like to hear about is your mileage gains and the amount of noise the intake makes. I can hear the difference between the stock air filter element and the K&N element inside the stock air box!

Pcv
I've been researching PCV for the Fit and can't find anything on it. The K&N Typhoon intake installation instructions call that tube that everyone is placing that breather on a CCV - crankcase ventilation. I don't think the FIT has a PCV valve.
Anyway, as it was stated before, positive crankcase ventilation is a good thing to remove blow-by and pressure from the engine. This also improves ring seal and can improve horsepower (not sure about the Fit with its miniscule power!). Racing engines use a vacuum pump or have a hose connected to the breather caps on the valve covers which is run to the header collector. This hose draws a vacuum in the engine from the venturi effect of the collector.
Wish I knew this before as I only had a breather cap on my 351 Cleveland. It could have used the vacuum for better ring seal, especially after I had just rebuilt it.
If the mileage gains is greater than the noise increase and I end up making this mod to my engine, I'll attach the CCV tube to the intake instead of venting it into the atmosphere.
