$40 Homemade Short Ram Intake **Officially now the SSR Intake***

$40 from Autozone's sorta new modular intake system. I got a 3"-2.5" coupler, 90 degree bend and a cone filter. I also put the little filter for the vent. I will shortly drill a hole to insert the IAT sensor.

I now dub it: SSR Intake (Sid Short Ram Intake)

same thing i did but i got blue coupler with 2 90 bends that i put just in front of battery and a short 4" inch pipe with short filter and made huge diff in sound from stock airbox...and can tell some diff ...the cai on our little engine wont make alot of hp or torque but a little and i couldnt see spending $200 to $400 for a setup...look nice with that red also i touched my cai pipe after driving like 40mins and it was still cold

omg i should have done that instead of buying a k&n filter. during hard rains here in san diego, my car is too low for a cai. so i need to run the short ram/stock intake box.

hmm...why didnt i think of that?

Sounds throaty at WOT, quiet at part throttle. Butt dyno says YEAH! They say it has to gain 5whp before your butt dyno feels a difference. I feel a difference from midrange all the way to redline.

looks good, I dig the red theme!
Interesting to see the textured cover too, with matching color.

so you say the butt dyno is feelin it...
so do you notice more pic up and go or is it the more snappy throttle response?...or both?....
do tell...I am uber curious...
Thanks

Could you give me a list of what you used and sizes includin the little filter as I'd like to do this for mine. You can't get many tuning things for the Jazz in the UK so I have to import nearly everythin which is very pricey!

kinda looks like he used one of those textured paints and then painted it red afterwards?

or just all in one go?

It is an interesting look, sorta masks the OEM middle texture a little bit.
oddly velvety..

I used VHT Red Wrinkle Paint and put about 8 coats on it. When it dries, it wrinkles up like that.

I was on the road today for 8 hours heading down here to Gulf Shores from Memphis. At one point with some slowing and speeding but setting cruise at 75mph, I got 40.5 mpg with about 500lbs total baggage and people. AMAZING!! I never got over 36mpg before.

Then after that, on a more stable portion about 150 miles long, set at 75mph, I got 43.8mpg!!!!!!

As I already mentioned, I used a 2.5"-3" silicone coupler, 3" 90 degree bend and a 3" base filter.

so no comments bout the setup i posted that puts the filter allittle more away from the engine and towards the fender....mine was litte more but not costly..feel diff in the butt dyno also and BIG diff in sound when u rev the engine you can hear more of the "sucking" from the filter and more loudness from under hood..

I will shortly drill a hole to insert the IAT sensor.
Where's the sensor now, just hangin' out?
