Where did it crack? Was the bracket loose? Mine cracked after a year and until then I was satisfied. K&N makes great filters BTW. But, the Fitment of their short intake.... well..... they could have made the filter a bit different and not quite as wide... hint, hint... I just wish that h-fit had made their intake kit out of aluminium or some stronger plastic. The SSI is real easy to install. ;)

I have sent back the K&N intake and the company said they would credit me. Gone back to the OEM and tried another but is the gain really worth it or do we all just like the added sound??
I am saving up for a supercharger though.

Damn, I did't know the IRL would be this effective after I installed my intake. The "Idle Relearn" made a dramatic improvement in the way my throttle feels. I also noticed the car is quieter and it idles smoother as well. Thanks for the tip guys.

I'm not assured that we are actually doing a credible idle learn procedure without the HDS to clear the ECM. See the obsessive posts I just added to the "stickied thread in the DIY section" and please let me know what you think.

Maybe you can also post a picture of a stock air box, and a SRI, and a CAI right next to each other to compare.

I had an AEM CAI in the Mazda6 I traded in for my new Fit, but I waited until I passed the warranty mileage before installing it. I'm a little nervous about warranty complaints.

That being said, has anyone tried a K&N drop in filter? I know the gains are minimal, but did anyone notice any differences in shifts or idling behavior?

Bought a Top Fuel Intake from a member yesterday. Installed it today. Removing the stock intake was a breeze thanks to the beginning of gettinafit's thread https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...commended.html Installation of the intake couldn't have been easier: attach to TB, tighten coupler, push AIT sensor into hole, attach tube to breather, done! I put a Mishimoto intake on my car last week and have been putting miles on it over the past few days.

Definite power boost that can be felt not only by the driver but by Fit-owning passengers as well. I don't doubt the 8whp/tq claims of the manufacturer.

There is also a noise boost, which I suspect most folks here would enjoy but unfortunately my wife does not. It's hardly noticeable unless you're in the throttle fairly hard, which is pretty often in a 100hp car. :) It's a full, throaty sound, not at all unpleasant, just a bit too intrusive for my wife's comfort.

Show her that you love her and buy her some earplugs........ Just Kidding.

Out of everything on the market what would someone recommend under $300 for short rams?

To start with I think that some are overpriced. I have tried K&N but found it quite daunting to install and after install getting the filter out to clean. The H-Fit intake is good but is plastic. I do know that AEM makes good products but has not gone the short ram way. Any long intake on this car means you have to take the bumper cover off when installing and probably when changing the filter.There are maybe dozens of companies out there: good luck. You can always go to Pep Boys or Advance Auto and get their generic pieces and put one together. Probably will find out that may be a problem since they don't cater to Fit Freaks!

The Welcome to PRM Racing - Jet Stream Intake System PRM JetStream is phenomenal. I had a H-Fit Supa Sucka and it cracked, as many have, but the real surprise was after replacing it with the JetStream, the performance improvement was palpable. It has an innovative reverse-cone filter that produces a venturi effect (when you remove the filter for cleaning you can see why) and it sucks air right next to the OEM ambient-air fender duct which gets positive pressure from a vent near the fog light (at least on my 2008 it does). The sound is awesome also. and hey, it's Canadian, eh?

can somebody explain the advantages/disadvantages of the oiled vs non-oiled airfilters available. specifically the AFE Pro Dry S air filter.
like, does the non-oiled ones require more frequent cleanings?
is the primary purpose of the oil to capture more particles?
the website doesn't really state advantages but i am assuming its some common sense answer which my brain isn't comprehending at the moment.. thanks!

I bought the AEM CAI in 2006 for my car and was wary of the dry filter due to the sandy soil that I have to drive on..... I must admit that I never detected any grit reaching the throttle body with it but I had to replace it after it was damaged and went with a Spectre brand oiled cotton filter from Auto Zone..... I now have the K&N that came on my Kraft Werks super charger and felt the need to change the oil due to feeling some fine grit between my fingertips from off of the dipstick.... I don't think it had to do with the filter because I always coat the inside of the intake tube at both ends with grease and found no grit there so it was probably grit on my fingers that was on my fingers and was loosened by the oil off of the stick .... I cleaned the filter anyway and found that it had stopped a quite a bit of sand and dust after only 2400 miles.... Unless you are driving on dry gravel or sand either will work but I have more confidence in oiled cotton and have used them on all of my cars and motorcycles for street use for over 20 years.... Check out the Spectre P3 that is sold at Auto Zone is a great design with a funnel shaped base and priced a lot cheaper than K&N but K&N oil is better because it is red in color and allows you to see that the filter is fully covered when re oiling it.... I know guys that replaced the mesh wire flame arrester on Jet-Skis with K&N filters to smooth the intake flow and K&N sold a Filter Charger Kit for street bikes in the 70s and 80s that included larger main jets to correct A/F ratios to prevent a lean mixture..... They last forever, improve performance, will go a very long time without maintenance and do what they are supposed to, stop dirt and grit from getting inside your engine.

Thanks for the advise. I'm glad you told me about having to take the bumper cover off with cold air intakes. I'll probably go short ram since I primarily use my car as a work vehicle.

The AFE intake is cold air without needing to remove the bumper cover. It uses baffles to create its own little chamber in the engine compartment. Not quite as cold as the ones that go through, but much better than short rams or even chambered intakes, if lower intake air temp is your objective.

As for the difference between oiled and the newer non-oiled high airflow filters: well, the bottom line is that I'm lazy. I currently run and AFE Pro-Dry S drop-in filter, chosen primarily due to the fact that it's not an oily, messy thing that needs special treatment. I can knock the gunk out of the dry filter, wash it with water, let it dry, and I'm back in business. Suits my lazy streak just fine.

I wouldn't run any high-flow filter whatsoever if I thought sand or its equivalent would be reaching the filter with any regularity. In such a case I think I'd go for a very large conventional filter, or stick with stock.
