Will this work with any 3" intake filter? I'm assuming it will but I wasn't sure about hood clearance or anything like that

Should work with any filter that can connect to a 3 inch pipe or the one I have actually has a larger opening but has two adapters to bring it down to 3" size.

the breather filter i picked up states that it fits 3/8-1/2" tubes. should i have gone smaller?

I updated my SSR intake in my personal Fit with the addition of another 90 degree elbow. Since everyone has commented that this would lower the intake temps, I decided it was worth a try.

I changed mine from a 90 and a 60 to a 90 and a 90 because with the 90 60 it was rubbing on a hose and eating a hole in the filter. My filter is resting quite a bit lower than yours right now sid. I couldn't get it to not rattle when it was higher.

Amazingly enough, I have no rattling at all and I did not have to move my battery or anything when I added the new 90 degree elbow. I've heard many have to loosen the mounting bolts and shove the battery as far back as they can within the mount. The elbow just went right on in like 3 minutes, I wiped down the area with some spray detail (it was pouring down rain outside and I had pulled the nose end inside the garage) and then snapped the photos. |

Has anyone else had problems with the couplers not fitting easily over the pipes? I double checked and the couplers are made for 3" piping and the pipes are labeled as 3" but they won't go on without some serious elbow grease.
Any tips on how to get them to slide on easier? |
I had the problem with the Plastic colored couplers, they were a real problem, so I ended up going with the couplers that came with the elbows.

You have to fenangle them on a little bit but mine went on just fine. They are really hard to get off tho.

You know what, I'm going to try this SiD Intake. I've never really thought about it but this is pretty much what your buying when you get those Short Ram intakes. A tube with a filter at the end. I'll bite, I'm going to make one next weekend.:cool:

you gotta lick it before you stick it right?? I spit on my finger... wiped in on the inside of the silicone boot and it slid right on with no problems! :hyper: :cool:

I haven't yet had a chance to go out and actually install this on my car yet because of all the rain here around chicago, but I've been "test assembling" it and even with lubrication the sleeves don't slide in easily.
I've noticed that the sleeves need to stretch a bit in order to accomodate the piping. Do I need to heat up the silicon or something so it stretches easier? Or do I just happen to have defective parts? It all goes together, but I'm having trouble imagining it will be easy to fenagle these parts onto the TB and then wiggle the two bends onto each other very well once it's actually in the engine. *shrug* I guess I won't know 'till I try, right? |
Well it shouldn't be too easy if they just slide on then it would be too loose and you would have issuse with it falling apart. It is almost a good thing that it is kinda difficult to get them together because that means that once you have it together it is going to be just as difficult for the engine to shake it apart.

I'm thinking of doing this today, but was wondering what you are using to support the filter side of the setup? Or are you just letting it vibrate and move around? Just wondering with the radaitor hose underneath the pipe, that it might cause a issue, or vibrate itself apart after some time.
