Do CAI or short ram intakes make a lot of noise?

I've pretty much had cold air intakes on my last few vehicles, and I know some of them can make a ton of noise under part to full throttle accelaration. So just how much noise to the ones out there for the Fit make? I'd love to slap a CAI on, but if its going to be real loud I'm going to just opt for a drop in instead. Appreciate any info.

It isn't that loud imo... Definitely louder than just drop in or stock. I kinda like the new sound with my sri.

My Fujita short ram scared me the first time I full throttled it, the Fit really screams with it on. It was at the point that I was seriously considering to sell it but eventually I came around to liking it. If you just want a little sound you can block off the two resonators in the OEM intake and throw a high flow filter in there and you should notice a little difference possibly.

I got my Fujita cai on last night and I like it. I was going for a test drive and i heard nothing but starting at 3K rpm it gets louder and louder. But it sounds dope though =]. its like a deep throaty roar!

Very loud if you're not used to it. I had one with the Sceptre filter for the DIY and it was actually much louder than the Fujita filter I'm using right now - so filters make a difference in sound as well.

Actually, with a drop-in it's louder with the resonators intact. Block them off, and it sounds quieter than stock, and loses that sweet spot from 4000 to 5500 the stock assembly produces (although seems to gain in the 6000-6500 rpm range but overall is slower). Mileage seems to go down too by about 3 mpg or so by my estimation.

Drop-in with completely stock airbox actually sounds good.

The SRI, though, holy loud batman. Then again, I wanted the Fit because it was so quiet inside.

gotta say, from my experience, K&N dropin in stock box was same noise level as stock. AFE intake I had was very loud. I recently picked up an Injen that is a CAI or can be used as a SRI. I used the SRI for a week, and it was loud, but not as loud as the AFE for some reason. Still havent decided if I want to rip off the bumper and actually install it as a CAI. If I dont I may just end up selling it. I like to test different products out if you couldn't tell yet lol!

What did you end up doing with the AFE?

Most aftermarket intakes will be louder than the stock air box.

If they use a metal tube they will definitely be louder.
If they use a conical filter, K&N or copy-cat, the sound can easily escape.

If you wish to remain quiet and still get a couple of ponies while improving fuel economy, get a drop in filter. They are cheaper, almost as effective, won't void warranty (I don't think a CAI will either), and don't make as much sound.

I paid $36.00 for one shipped to my door.

I hope this helps :-)
