K&N vs Intake

I am thinking about doing "Sids Short Ram Intake" but would I get the same results(minus sound) from a K&N drop in filter? Any suggestions on what to do?

Hey Sam, you PM'ed me and I haven't gotten a chance to get back to you yet, but I'll respond on here.

If you're looking for more power then an entirely new intake system would be your best bet. K&N Drop In Filter doesn't do anything for power, but I've noticed that the car drives smoother after I installed it. As far as MPG, I can't say yet. Took my car on a round trip to Orange County this weekend and averaged 31.5mpg, but I was doing like 70-80mph. So the SSR might be best for you if you're looking to feel a difference.

Awesome. Thanks man! The best I have ever averaged is about 30 mpg...so Im hoping I can find something that increases HP and mpg. Think the new intake would do that?

Intakes only change efficiency from OEM at high airflow levels, heavy throttle use, so overall the difference in mileage is usually minimal. If air temp is different, aka warmer, it may be good (warm air, less parasitic loss), or bad (low rpm high load ping, retarded timing beyond efficient range, wasted fuel).

It's usually good for keeping up with traffic tho, just that little extra is nice sometimes.

Driving habits will help more with your mileage though if that's what you're really after.
