intake heatsoaking???
intake heatsoaking???
i don't get what heatsoaking is. it an issue with aftermarket short ram intakes is what i know so far and people go as far as making heat shields for the car. can someone explain it to me? is it bad for my motor or gas mileage?
"The phenomenon known as "heat soak" occurs when the engine is turned off. At this time, the combustion process is terminated. This terminates the momentum of the crankshaft, which in turn stops the turning of the water pump. As the coolant is no longer being circulated, the engine block and cylinder temperature increase for a period of approximately 3 to 10 minutes, depending on the engine design and additional components."

I think the OP is referring to heat soak of the intake piping. meaning the ambient underhood temperatures are heating the intake piping and in this case heating the intake air going into the TB.
the oem plastic airbox has less heat soak than most aftermarket piping. but the increase of velocity and volume of air of an aftermarket intake usually will more than negate any loss of power due to heat soak creating a less dense air charge.

thank you guys for answering my question guys. i'm just not sure there is any point in keeping my intake. i don't even floor my car or take it past 3k. i'm going to convert back to stock with a k & n air filter
