slushbox revving

Just received it today! I have this intake on an automatic Fit..

First impression.. everything was so nicely packaged! Then unwrapping.. mmm so shiny.

INSTALLATION: it should be straight forward. All that is given is a diagram of the intake installed. There are footnotes on how to align the intake which was very useful. I think that's the 'hardest' part of the whole install, getting both sections to align. I think the intake head is touching the car though.. Not sure if that will cause a problem, but I do not hear any rattling. The little bracket used to support the intake to the car was a little confusing to put on but i think I put it on alright. Other than that, there was much room to be seen in the engine bay now!

Here's the initial revving sound..
YouTube - Honda Fit PRM Intake

As with a few posts earlier on how Honda intakes all sound the same, I think I can partially agree with that. I only agree when its testing out the revs like I did in that video. Going out for a little test drive though.. I can totally disagree with this intake sounding like all the other intakes!!

Sorry I can't back up my opinion with a test drive video, I dont have a camera mount plus I was too excited haha. But that jet stream sound kicks in after 3k rpm.. sounds so coool. When it up-shifts it even sounds cool, I thought it only occurs in stick-shift but apparently it kind of does it in automatic too. I'll try to make a video to show you what I mean if someone else hasnt already done it.

I wasn't really paying attention to performance just yet because I was so in awe with the sound, but it seemed to pick up faster than the stock intake.

Air Temperature: early morning when it is cool, the intake air temp is between 75-87F. Afternoon, the temp is high 80's- low 90's (hot days I noticed the temp range is 100-120F)

Sound: that initial first drive had that unique sound I really liked that the S2000 PRM intake has. For some reason after about a week, the sound doesn't have that distinct sound it had for the first drive.. I'm wondering if it is because the engine warmed up so the air is warmer, or because I am not revving past 4k rpm all the time.
Was driving home tonight and did some WOT starts, it seems thats when the unique aggressive sound occurs.. not so aggressive sound when accelerating normally

Performance (my opinion):
-better throttle response than stock, similar response as H-Fit SSI.
-WOT acceleration, definitely better than stock.. intake seems to be operating at maximum performance, but to me it feels like it's not at max HP.. but that's just how it feels to me.. Comparing with H-Fit, SSI seems to provide more acclerating power in the 4k+ RPM range.
how each gear feels to me:
-1st gear: when i am at a roll i feel like there's so much accelerating power, but I know i can only go up to 30mph before i have to upshift haha
-2nd gear: feels great throughout
-3rd gear: When i upshift into 3rd, the engine seems to be searching what RPM load it should be at for a second (only if the foot is not on the gas throughout shifting). i noticed it happening with PRM but not h-Fit intake. This probably is only a problem for AT but not MT.
-4th gear: I find myself in 4th gear sooner than I expected many times compared to H-fit and stock. possibly because I am accelerating quicker? i havent' figured that one out yet.
-5th gear: i can actually stay in 5th gear goign up some of the hills that I would normally have to downshift with the stock intake.

I'll review and edit this some more when I get the chance

soooo....i know a handful of people around here have this....soooo....how does it "feel" , heard ALOT about how it sounds but not so much about how it performs. has anyone dyno'ed with this intake for HP results??? i imagine you'd feel the difference at MID and HIGH range given the design.

Mine feels as if it makes more power and has better throttle response than the K&N SRI that I used before. But I don't drive as much as most members, and I don't intend to visit a dyno. My first long drive with the system will be tomorrow- 4 hours freeway round trip.

However, PRM has plans to get a GD3 dyno done with this intake, and post their charts. How soon? I don't know, but I'm sure that Gerry will let you know.

I have used K&N intakes for years, wrote a LONG thread about the failings of their SRI on my Fit, and feel that this system beats anything that K&N ever made, and has advantages over any other intake on the market for the Fit. If you have the budget, don't miss out on PRM's group buy prices.

*To those that have the intake directly pointed at the fender air hole*

Did you push the silicone as far as you could on to the metal tubing and filter?

I'm wondering why mine is not directly pointed at the hole, mine seems to be angled downwards pointed at the bottom-half of the fender hole.

I've had this intake for almost a month now and love it... just got married so I haven't had time to do a review, but Pepper' you've covered pretty much everything already.... I guess I'm one of the very few to have personally met Gerry... I've noticed more or less same fuel efficiency, but again I've been ripping it a lot more than before, I still need to get some quantitative data, but even that can be skewed due to driving characteristics etc... great intake though, WELL WORTH the money

What ever happened to Iceman intakes from Knight Engineering? I loved the one I had. It was a heavy duty plastic with a honed like inside surface and it was a two-piece unit that you converted to a short-ram
if you were going to be driving in the rain.

When it really comes down to it and considering what this motor is, I just can't justify spending $200 dollars on something does not really out perform a drop-in air filter. Don't get me wrong, I am impressed with this intake. I think this one is the best design to date.

I'm going to continue saving for the ultimate intake: a turbocharger :-)

A cold-air intake would be nice to use along with a turbo. It would further ensure the efficiency of the intercooler.

Turbochargers make me grow a rubbery one.

I think a cold-air intake with a turbo would be pretty much useless. The air would become burning hot once it went through the turbo anyway. You'd probably get even more lag on top of the turbo lag with that as well. The intercooler will do its job fine without a cold air intake.

It might be useless on such a low power application such as the L15 but I think a colder charge would take more time to heat up and loose air density thus having less heat over all.

Also, how would this add to turbo lag? The diameter and length of the hot and cold charge pipes would remain the same.

hey revd, if you want to send me the prm, I'll send you the LS. How much does the PRM sell for? I just want to swap out on the spot so I'm not driving around without an air filter...

okay I just ordered a black one from the site. There was no red, only black or blue. $230 and I didn't know this was a CAI. My LSP is chambered. It sounds beautiful but I like how this PRM isn't wildlooking, like you said manxman. The LSP is too flashy for me, but it probably makes more power than this, if only 1 or 2hp...Maybe not though. I'll wait for dyno lol. Thanks again revd34 Hopefully when I get back to FL the PRM will be waiting for me to swap!
