OK I did some research and I think I see how they did this.

MAP signal controls timing as well as fuel for our cars. The F/IC allows you to remap the MAP signal based on load / RPM.

By pulling MAP voltage, you effectively pull fuel AND add timing (via the stock maps). You can add the injector pulsewidth back in directly using the main fuel map, and your net result is advanced timing. You'd have to use some sort of OBD 2 monitor / logger to ensure you aren't adding too much / not enough timing, however, as the FIC can't datalog ignition timing.

So, by ghetto-rigging it, you CAN run advanced timing with the F/IC.

Hm... I might try implementing a lean cruise with this... Advanced timing + lean mixtures at cruise loads can make for some ridiculous gas mileage.

Manifold pressure is a measurement of engine load. All fuel maps for speed density cars are plotted against RPM and Load (MAP).

And yes, you need the on board MAP sensor. The FIC uses it for the load calculation.

The hose is vacuum line. It's for the MAP sensor nipple on the front of the FIC. It goes to any vacuum source off the intake manifold.
