Unhappy CatCams

Hi,

Has anyone install Catcam 263/259 cam in L15A?

I went to 2 workshops and change in and out for 3x with his cam. Everytime after install, my Idle sucks, hunting, and engine will die off suddenly. Has also done 2x dyno tuning. Do i need to do up my compression? Any need for adjustable cam spocket? Please help anyone!!

Without supporting mods and additional work... that is NOT going to go well...

Also, you will need a FULL tuning system to compensate. I do not know if the Hondata Flashpro is compatible with your ECU but I would Email them and find out. A lot of folks over seas use the Dastek Unichip Q, is that the "unichip" you are using?

An adjustable cam gear should be a required when you switch to an aftermarket cam if you ask me...

Oh yes. I m using unichip Q. I did email catcam uk, and they reply this is a drop in cam with not much mod needed. The most is an emu to fine tune the fuel and spark. I was thinking of porting my head to increase my compression. And also for adjustable cam gear, can't find it in my country. Both the 2 wksp mechanic did a comparison on my stock and catcam, the timing is the same, just the loop is abit higher on catcam.

Porting your head will NOT change your compression ratio. No need for an adjustable cam gear. If your mechanic is competent he will be able to "degree" the cam and adjust IF NEEDED with offset key or bushings.

Something is wrong here if you get bad idle on this cam because at idle the cam shouldn't make any difference. Sounds more like the installation has been messed up somehow.

If you were getting high speed problems then you could blame it on the cam.

If this garage is the one telling you to port your head for more compression to cure this problem THEY don't know what they are doing.

Oh. Understand. When i am driving, car is ok. Only when i stop, then the problem comes. I think i am wasting my $ on this cam if i can't find a competent workshop. But the funny thing is catcam never say anything about degreeing the cam. Just the tdc they specify.

I am 100% with loudbang and dew on this....

If you paid a shop to install a different cam and they did not degree it, then you are certainly wasting money on that shop NOT the cam.

Now, having the car at TopDeadCenter as per CatCam's instructions is going to be part of that cam degree process.... but not all of it... Here is a good but long read on the subject: ISKY Racing Cams.

The bump in duration on that cam isn't TOO terrible ( OEM is 235/251 yours should be 263/259)... but I could see it effecting idle some. If you can get video to us... that would be ideal...

This seems to only work in an Internet Explorer Window but it has the detailed cam specs: CATCAMS racing parts [camshafts-valve springs-retainers-connecting rods]
