Having My First Shift Fit in SF
Having My First Shift Fit in SF
Hello out there on the Fit Farm. Bought my first Fit last week from Shift and in process of buying a second this week. Our rides were totalled three weeks ago while parked in front of our house by an errant Prius with insurance. Wife had a 2012 VW EOS Komfort that she bought new and cherished. Mine was a 2010 BMW X3. Both excellent condition, low miles. We've owned mostly Euro rides and aside from a 2000 Miata that we have driven all over the Southwest and a 1969 Subaru 360 (that I got running after laying dormant for years and then sold to a guy in Los Banos, CA who used it as a sign for his motorcycle repair shop) we have been, how you say?, a little indifferent to Japanese compacts. Sorry guys. But we have seen the light and after doing a little research and especially after driving a Fit, we were both hooked. A family member owns one and loves it, a sister of a close friend, likewise. Can't figure out where we've been for decades now. Fits are all over SF- sometimes 2 or 3 on a block.

Yeah. There is a lot to like in a Fit (Jazz in the EU). If you don't drive much. you won't be disturbed by the down sides. Highway speeds and the car is loud. Long trips and you may find it uncomfortable but trips around town... Great mileage, small and nimble in tight places, able to carry larger items, and very reliable.
Welcome to team Fit/Jazz.

Thank you for the welcome and your input. Ironically, after (only) 200mi in the first week, about 50/50 freeway/city, we noticed a few strengths that you kindly pointed out were potential weaknesses. The 2018 is about as quiet as my X3 on the freeway (I'll also compare it to my 2000 Miata which is too loud to listen to music on the freeway). I'm also impressed by the pickup and willingness to cruise at 70+ ( when we test drove I floored it and scared my wife- heck scared me too). As far as comfort goes, we keep remarking at the shape of the seats and how supportive they are. Granted, no 7-800 mile days yet like we have driven in the Miata on trips to Arizona, New Mexico and Death Valley- but we were fine after that too and the Miata idoesn't have the best seats. So maybe we're lucky. (I'd like again to try the breakfast in Death Valley, up 395 east of the Sierra, Mammoth Mountain in the rain top down, Mono Lake, cut west into Yosemite at Tioga Pass just before they close it for the winter, already covered in rocks, lunch at the Ahwahnee in Yosemite, then home to SF for dinner and cocktails fall trip in the Fit. That would be the test!). I'm sure there are many epic trip tales out there, with sore backs or not!
