Hey guys,
I just bought a 2013 Honda Fit with 60,000 miles owned by a disabled guy who bought it new. I'm buying it because I bought a 1966 Plymouth Valiant (which out to have the wrong oil pan and the original type is unobtanium) because my 1993 Ford Tempo got totaled last year. I'm somewhat mechanically apt. What are some things I should do immediately upon getting the car? I already saw the sticky about the spark plugs (tighten to 20 ft-lb with small amount of anti-seize) but what else? Any preventative maintenance I can perform? Common problem areas? It has the 1.5l 4 cylinder and an automatic. I'm currently planning to put some new spark plugs in, change the oil, air + cabin filter, new tires, coolant flush and change the transmission fluid. Any other recommendations? Anything you recommend against? I'll upload pics of the car tomorrow. Thx guys.
Welcome to the club! Sounds like you found a good one. All that maintenance stuff you mentioned is what I would start with. Look in to what a valve adjustment entails and see if that might be something you're comfortable doing. I'd recommended doing it, just for peice of mind.
sorry guys! been totally busy and kinda forgot to reply lol. Here’s some pics. Recently got some sumitomos. Gonna have to go back to the tire shop though since even after a weekend the “TPMS” indicator is still on with these new sensors.
Welcome. Nice Fit. What engine is in your Valiant?
225 Slant Six. It’s not the original, it’s a blue block, probably from a 67-77 car. It’s annoying because the original early A bodies (1960-1966) used a special oil pan that wasn’t used on any other cars. No aftermarket support so you’ve just got to find one.
