Really odd sound in my 2009 Fit
I’m driving a manual 2009 Fit and today I was stopped at a light near some construction and noticed a very soft alarm sound, an ascending siren/alarm sound about every 3 seconds, which I assumed was coming from a construction vehicle. After I drove away I still heard it at the same volume and speed. I lowered windows to confirm it wasn’t coming from outside. I messed with the a/c, fan, radio, etc. and it continued for my 10-minute drive. I stopped at one point to confirm I couldn’t hear it from outside the vehicle at all, and it was hard to hear from the back, with the easiest way to hear it in the driver’s seat, but still it was very quiet, almost like an alarm that was almost completely shorted out. No lights or any problems on the dash, nothing else happening out of the ordinary. I stopped at the Honda dealership and the tech there was just as confused as I was. We messed with the seats, thinking maybe it was part of the alarm system for the passenger seatbelt, looked under the hood, etc etc. At one point he noted a small box with a green light under the steering wheel which I assumed was part of the security system but he said it was an after-market item, and after some more exploring he decided it was a tracker.
We were never able to locate anything else in the car which could have been making that particular noise and he thought it was at least *possible* the tracker was making that noise. It continued on the rest of my 5-minute drive, but the light on the tracker box was off, and when I parked the light came back on, but blinking (it was solid green when he pointed it out to me). On my drive home, the sound was gone. I’m about to drive back this evening so we’ll see what the latest situation is, but I was very curious if anyone else has encountered this issue. I really don’t care one way or another if there’s a tracker on the car, and I don’t really want to mess with removing it since he said it was wired in with more than one wire and didn’t want to mess things up for me (it wasn’t just something that could be unplugged), but if it starts again and if it’s some sort of short trying to engage an alarm, I don’t want it to run my battery down overnight or whatever.
In probably unrelated facts, I just replaced two tires, and the TPMS light came on briefly but is not on at the moment. I’ve had the car for about 6 years and the only other remotely electrical thing I’ve noticed is that very occasionally the passenger airbag light will come on for no reason (like, as if I’d disengaged it or turned off the airbag), but it always goes away after awhile.
