07 Fit Owner....new member

Hey all...just wanted to introduce myself. im Pot and reside in NY and MD. the short story is my wife and i bought a house in MD but with the economy the way it is, i have yet to find anything close to home. SO...i kept my job in NY and travel to and from on the weekends. we fell in love with the Fit as soon as it was introduced here in 2007 and we HAD to have it, lol. i have NO complaints on the car whatsoever.

i stumbled in here while i was looking for replacement brake parts. i had the car in the dealer for a diagnostic and oil change when i received a call that i need new brakes. ok...not a problem right...what am i looking at? dude on the line says it'll be $285 to replace the pads...oh, but wait...you also need new rotors....new total $680. anyways....i couldnt figure out the math as to why it costs so much, so i took my car back and will be doing them myself. i dont have the money to go high end with the parts, so i will go "cheap" for now and when i get more cash flow in 6 months, i will get good parts - and thats why im here. i didnt realize the Fit had such a following and i hope you guys here will help me out with my "stupid questions", lol.

anyways...i know the rules...i will keep it clean. no one likes to have a guest come to their house and make a mess. talk to ya laterz!!

Welcome Pot. You have no idea what you're getting into coming around here...

Go OEM on the brake parts, buy them online. Easy job, plenty of help here.

Welcome to the Fit family! Like Krimson said above hang on to your hat your about to take a ride. The Fit begs to be modded and the results are all so sweet. I am 54 years old and never even did tint on a car until I joined this site in 02/07 and got my Fit on 05/07. The car has been a work in progress and the best car I have ever owned. No one believes a 54 year old lady driving around town in the Mugened out, carbon fiber Fit!

Welcome aboard! This is the hot spot for Fit owners, even up here in Canada!

Yeah I can still remember my first post

"My plan is change the wheels and that is it, I bought the Fit so I wouldn't be tempted to modify"

Yeah... that didn't last long, lol.

thanks for the welcomes!!

krimson - u really think OEM's would be my best bet?? i had brembo slotted rotors and hawk pads on my civic and it seems as if they lasted a while. i wasnt racing or anything, but i always figure, why not spend the little extra money for something worth it. i did come in here to see what people think, but if you say OEM (and im sure others will agree) i will go OEM. i just didnt think it was worth $600+ for Honda to do them. i was being lazy, i know, lol. right now i just need to get by, so pepboys/autozone pads and rotors will have to do until later this year you know.

cat - i like you already!, lol. i always tint my cars and its the best "mod" for any car, gives the car a whole different look. i had to tear my tints off when i moved to MD....you dont know how upsetting that was. and i did it myself....so i cried over my beer as the tint was being torn....oh the agony.

sugar - dude....thats why i got rid on my civic. i was putting so much money into it "for no reason". when we saw the Fit, we thought...NICE!! a sporty looking car and i wont have the need to buy mods since there arent any!! fast forward to now and this site...oh man, im in trouble again, lol.

I was simply going by your need to support two houses and commuting three states between them.. You can get OEM brake parts on-line at good prices, then DIY. I do question the need for an upgrade, however. But that's not what it's about, it's your ride. If I were to do anything it would be to convert the rears to disks - not sure what Honda was thinking on that call.

See, now you're into it__and the first thing I did, even before getting home from picking my ride up was to give the rear five a 35% tint w/ a 5% windscreen strip.

lmao...dude....i picked up the car and drove it straight to the tint place. i had 35% in the front, 25% in the back, and no strip.

the upgrade.......i really cant say why. its probably that "piece of mind" that clouds my thought. im thinking, i have "high end" parts, so they can somewhat take a beating....idk....its stupid to think that way, i know, lol. maybe its the "ricer" in me, lol....but i will look online for OEM's. i just couldnt see myself shelling out $600+.....

being lazy.....you know a link on how to convert the rears?? i question wtf was honda thinking with drums....sure, they last a little longer, but eh....wtf, lol.

All I can see on the conversion is that it gets real involved. I believe the JDM has them, but the set-up's a bit different. FIT is not rated well on stopping distance - nothing to do with the front set-up, it's those rear drums I'm thinking.

Hangin' around here will soon sort out your "ricer" issues, one way or another_
