Bike rack or hitch option?

Hello all!
Am considering trading in my gas guzzling armada for a fit. However I don't know how I will transport my road bike. I will be carrying passengers so removing the front wheel isn't a great option. What have some of you come up with??any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

It's personal preference. Roof racks are expensive, but the best option for any car in my opinion. You could also get a hitch (they make bolt on removable hitches) if you want something that doesn't stay on the car.

I have a roof rack. Best thing I've probably invested in. If you're an outdoor kind of person I say get the roof rack. It'll benefit you in the long run. But get the hitch if you're only going to carry bikes.

Nice set-up

I think this is a beautiful set-up solbrothers has here.

I like the trailer wheels. No tiny spinnies here.... sized the way they should be. +rep

Racks can be used for more than bikes. It's difficult to carry a kayak/canoe on a trailer.

I had a rack but sold it. I'll probably buy another as well as a hitch/trailer for random cargo.

i keep sticking with roof racks on my vehicles because i only have to spend around 50 bucks for the feet to swap it to my new car.

a hitch (for cycling purposes) is a great option, but i dont like the fact that the bikes are so close to the ground and easier for unwanting people to take off. i'd prefer the bike on the roof and locked instead of on a hitch and locked. its too easy to jack stuff when its within arms reach. at least with a roof rack they have to put a little more effort into it

a rack will decrease your fuel economy, dramatically. a hitch/rack doesnt change fuel economy AT ALL

Dramatically = 2 in my experience. I also drive 75-80 on limited-access roadways.

A hitch is also the first object to get crushed in a rear collision.

you're right. also if you get rear ended, the rack takes most of the damage. you could also get a new bike

Very true. Downsides and advantages to both.

no, there isnt a downside to a hitch. when you're done with your bike, take the rack off

and in the event of someone rearending you, you get a brand new bike. for my road bike, thats at least $4k

Anyone pick up a hideaway hitch or a simple bolt on hitch?

for the gd there is 2 or 3 hitch options. and they are all pretty much the same exact one.

i recently bought a hitch for my integra and it was the same way. all brands had the same one but with a different sticker on it.
