my Fit didn't kill us
never posted here but subscriber since 2011. '09 Sport. We were sideswiped by a semi. On the interstate. In traffic. sideswiped probably twice per hwy patrol. First hit put me out of control but thought i could recover. Then I think we were struck 2nd time heading us across the right lane and into the guardrail. missed a concrete abutment by 2 ft. Terrific impact. Airbags front and driver side curtain.
My wife has advanced asthma. bags very bad for her.
The impact was sufficient to completely throw the battery out of the vehicle.
But my trusty little Fit protected us as it was supposed to. No intrusion into passenger compartment. My poor wife suffered a broken hip. she says from the seatbelt buckle. I was driving and hurt but didn't need care. In the 2 weeks since the accident I have had anxieties I never felt before. We're gonna be ok but wife will need rehab after surgery and near terminal respiratory difficulty.
Also we were NOT shredded to bits by our takata-equipped-unreplaced airbag igniters although I will strongly recommend avoiding airbag deploys.

I'd say your Fit worked exactly like it was designed and supposed to do, and I'm also thankful that you weren't more seriously injured and will both recover. Crashes can be very scary and anxiety-inducing experiences for sure. I do hope the insurance company (or companies) are not giving you too much trouble in processing your claims; sometimes that can be a rather tedious and quite unpleasant process in itself.
It's good advice to avoid airbag deployment whenever possible regardless of what inflator you have, I think. At the same time, they can be of considerable value if they are indeed needed.
