h9 bulbs

H11 to H9 conversion
There was a small tab across from the one in the picture. I removed it with a
utility knife.
I made the three slots wider to accept the different spacing and size of the
tabs on the H9 bulb.
This is the tool I used to modify the slots a little at a time.
Here is the bulb installed.

You can also just modify the light bulb itself and leave the housing stock. It took me less then two minutes to cut the tabs, plastic and metal, on both bulbs down to size. I cut the plastic rib out as shown above with a pair of wire cutters, then used the dremmel to grind a small amount off of the largest tab.
Stock H9 tab, largest one...

Finished Mount...

Great write up gguest!
I looked all over and could not find anyone that stocked the H9 bulb.
Finally ordered some H9's from a parts store , stock bulbs, no light stealing blue tints, for $16 each. Hopefully they will get here in the next day or two!
For the guys that did this already, how would you describe the difference in light output? Not the actual percentage, but the observed difference between the different bulbs? Is it something that you think everyone should do, or is it something that you would say take it or leave it?

Well, I picked up the bulbs last night and modified them to fit the housing and plug. Installed them this morning! I installed the driver side and did a compare! The new bulb looks a lot whiter and slightly brighter!!
The real test will be tonight when it gets dark! Hopefully the difference will be night and day, LOL!
My wife looked at me funny when I told her I was changing out the bulbs on the new car. "What was wrong with the old ones?" Women!

about 50% more light output, that is what comes from converting. At least, that is what they are rated at. The H9 has 10 more watts of draw, but does not have the top of the bulb covered with a shield.

I just finished this mod. i did "widening the hole" way for future bulb fitment...
first impression at night?
more visible light on both sides of the road
more brighter light right infront of the car
