Has anybody used this setup?
i was wondering if anybody has used these speakers and box setup and if you got pretty good sound or hated them.
i would like to stay small and not go with something big.

Two months ago, Car Audio and Electronics (mag) reviewed the 12", in the Pioneer box. Their impression was so-so. It's not loud nor is it all that controlled. They like the size (depth) because it'll work where other sub won't and it still works within a small enclosure.
I have not auditioned this sub but have heard enough to know what CAE was talking about. If this sub fit's your need (depth), get the 10" version. The smaller size will offer more control (think of this as how well it reproduces the sound of the drumstick hitting the drum). Drive it with an amp rated for 200W+ (at 4 ohms) that's of good quality (>$300, price is a bad measure of quality but I don't know how else to express it).
If you can afford greater depth, then there are better subs for the money that don't require a well controlled amp to sound good.

they are a decent sub as long as you have the power to back it up. Don't short power on them what-so-ever or they won't sound very good. You also won't get the depth you normally would off of a regularly designed sub. just my 0.02...
yeah but i havent found anyother subs that are this size.
i can go with a normal size 12 and box but lose the room i want and may need from time to time. i guess i just dont wanna get something and then be pissed off at myself cuz it sounds like crap but hey i guess thats life.

If you don't want to build your own box, or pay to have a shop build one, considers either the JL Audio premade or the Q-Logic. I've used both (10W1 bandpass, and the Q 10" trapezoid). The JL was great, although a little more expensive than a generic box. The Q works well too but needed a little cross bracing to really let it pound.
Subs today are designed to fit into "Type" categories. Each Type represents a volume and whether sealed or ported. The Q (and other company) boxes are built to those dimensions. The cool thing for you is that they also make "Truck" boxes that are shaped much like the Pioneer box, and can be put into the hatch without taking a great deal of square footage.
Go to Crutchfield.com and check it out. You'll see that the Type 1 enclosure for a 10" sub is 0.65 cf. Depth of the truck box is less than 9" (as is the 12" truck box). If you face the sub into the back of the seats, it would be difficult to even tell it was a sub. If you're willing to go with an 8" sub (or a pair of them which is my favorite arrangement) then the box is less than 7.5" deep (same depth as the Pioneer).
Crutchfield also offers multiple subs that would work well within these prefab boxes. In the 8", Polk MM and RF Punch Stage 2 would be great. Your options in the 10" and 12" are much better (from Crutchfield). I have always loved Boston Acoustics and have 2 8" Pro4s in my basement awaiting my Fit. They also have the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 which has justifiably become the best mid-range sub available. I'm not a fan of Kicker subs. Again the Polk MM would be great. As would the RF Stage 2.
With any of these subs, you may have to brace the inside of the enclosure and then add a little pillow polyfill (about half the volume of box loosely stuffed in) to get the best sound, but it would be a very simple thing to do. Overall, I think you'd be happier with my suggestions than with the Pioneer. Good luck.
how about the audiobahn atb10at. this thing kicks nicely. Not super loud and the best thing is that u can move it around and disconnect it quickly if u want it outa the way. this is my trunk.

Here is another fitfreaker that has the exact same setup as mine. we actually got em both done the same time, he jsut beat me to the thread.

Five or 10 years ago, I would have said to avoid Audiobahn as they were all about look and little about sound. But they're now putting out a good product for the price. For a simple generic installation, you really can't beat their powered tube subs. I think it too will sound better than the Pioneer combo. There as systems that will sound better but probably not at the price or the ease of install.
whats up.. new comer here.. Im the manager of a circuit city car audio dept.. One thing you need to remember when looking at subs and enclosures is what type of music you listen too.. if you are a rocker then get a higher quality ten and load it into a sealed enclosure.. that will give you a tigher faster bass.. if you listen to mostly rap then twelves are the way to go.. twelves will give you a better frequency response.. enclosures will make or break a system and the way they sound.. sealed with be tighter and faster.. vented will be louder.. if you are looking to save space thin subs will do fine.. just dont expect the best sound quality out of them.. a good sounding sub will have a tight surround and enough excursion to follow certain bass notes which most thin subs will not produce so well.. take this for what its worth.. just trying to help
I just went out and bought me a 10 inch subwoofer box at walmart. The speaker is a Rockford 10" P2. The amp is a Rockford Punch 250. It rattles all kinds of stuff. lol. yet it saves space.
