Sup to all , i recently just bought this 6.5" JL sub from crutchfield "" ,JL Audio 6W3v3-4 "" hoping to get it in a couple of days, .. but for the life of me i can't find an enclosure i know 6.5 isn't your typical size sub but i figured i just wanted a lil more bass, nthn to blow the glass out......i've searched up and down but no luck.....if any one has used this small of a sub or knows any place to get encloures any info would b greatly appreciated...............thanx in advance

I'm doing the same, gettin a 6" sub but making a custom enclosure that fits under the centre of the rear seat. Will take some pics if ya want??

 

make it yourself or have one made. Or if you don't want to do tha much work. Call some shops and troll ebay for a bazooka 6.5" tube with a blown sub.

 

yeah i thought about a bass tube but i figured a some kind of box would look cleaner and if done right should still be pretty decent bass wise atleast i think... ????????

 

Looking over the specs of that sub more closely, I'd have to say don't bother. Just get a set of Focal 165KF's for the front and some good sound deadening and a clean amp (75WrmsX2) you'll get more noticable bass than with that.

Since you allready got it though. If your hell-bent on using it. Make an enclosure that kits in the hatch and you can wedge into a corner.

 

Here's some pics of my box, it's a bit rough but is fully sealed an fits in perfect. Not got any in car pics yet as I only sealed it at work this afternoon so the silicone's not fully cured but will get some pics of it in place tomorrow for ya. What ya reckon Injundon, this is the sub I plan to use with it eDaudio.com, gettin the 2 ohm version, it comes very highly rated by guys on the mini forums over here who can only work with small spaces so should do for what I'm after!

 

isitafox do you know of a place that sell thats speaker in the states? nice enclosure by the way.

 

Not sure as thats an own brand one but if you get in touch they be able to sort summat out!!

Fitments a bit tight, could have done with angling the bottom up a tiny bit but when you drop the seat down it holds it in place pretty tight. Problem is you've gotta make it big enough to fit the sub but small enough to fit under the seat. If anyone wants I can stick some basic sizes up for it.

what total volume did you end up with? looks close to .5cu/ft. oh and a little trade secret that i've used in the past that works wonders for marking out the circle(appears you make a pie like drawing to get yours?) but i've used a scrap peice of wood and drill a hole into it then drill a second hole for the radius of the opening and put a wood screw into the second hole just protruding about 1/16". and mark where you want the center of the hole. drill a hole and put the scrap tool and use the drill bit as your pivot then just scribe the tool in a circle. then you have an instant perfect circle. thought i'd see if that helps for any future projects. you use 3/4" mdf?

 

Marked centre an used a compass to draw the right sized hole. Not sure about volume without having another look, I made it out of a mix of 3/4 an 1/2 mdf as it was what i had lying around at work left over from another project. Now I've done this and got a good idea of size I might make a decent box all from 1/2" ply that fits in a bit better. Will have a measure up of this one when I get home tonight and post up the design with sizes etc.

 

Right here's the plans I'll be using for my final design. All the sizes are for constructing with 1/2" mdf or ply, the angle the bottom is unknown as of yet but if the back of itis raised about 1/2" it should be sufficient.

Looks pretty sweet but now you can't lay the seats flat. Oh well.. it's still sweet

 

Use 5/8" MDF and polyfill the box. 1/2" Will flex alot even with a 6" sub.

 

thats why i wanna rock the sq10 from elementaldesigns. i can have it facing upward, and it doesnt need much depth to make it boom.


i might be able to fit 3 if need, but thats only if i wanna look stealthy.

 

Use two or three 6W3's in a small custom made enclosure in the back of the car for the best results. You can always enlist a local car audio dealer to make your enclosure. In fact you can pick up the extra subs from a local JL dealer.

I had an older JL Audio enclosure made for three 6W0's that was ported. I put three W3's in it but haven't listened to it yet. It's for my wife's 2006 Subaru Forester.

Because of phasing, you can loose a little output putting a subwoofer in the middle of the car firing forward.
