Mounting Amps???

I've been knocking on the back of the rear seats to find something solid to mount my amp to. But it seems really flimsy.

How are you guys mounting your amps to your rear seats??

Of course, it's up to you...but you might not want to mount the amps to the back of the seats. Although the amp isn't too heavy, there's the possibility of them pulling out...and that would be annoying at the least. On top of that, if you don't use some type of spacer, you'll be poking your rear seat passengers in the backs with your mounting screws. lol I think I'm either going to make a custom piece or mount them to my sub box. Haven't yet decided.

I have thought about the screws poking passenger's back. But the seats are fairly thick. I might look into mounting it under the seats vertically. I still haven't had a chance to do anything to my amp. it's all wired up but just sitting there with gobs of wires everywhere.

If i find a good way to mount it on the rear seat I will post pics..

That's what I thought about my Grand Am, but it happened anyway...actually stabbed myself in the hand when I pushed on the back seat while leaning in to get something out. I had to warn people to sit down carefully! lol

Actually, I was just using the screws supplied with the amp. I was afraid of not screwing it in very far and not getting much support from the screw itself. under the front seats is also an option...provided you can maintain clearance. I've also looked at that panel on the left side of the rear hatch...the flat one...as a good place to mount a small amp.

After an hour of figuring things out, I got it mounted the way I intended to! The Driver's side rear seat. I used 5/8" long screws.

The downside is, I was only able to install 3 screws. But it's held on really good.

If you feel the back of the seats, you can tell that about every 3 inches or so, there's a vertical peice of hard material. My amp just happened to catch them on each side of the amp mounting points. So I have the top 2 screwed in tight.

the bottom near the hinge, you can feel around on there and feel a solid square shaped plastic material. I just mounted the bottom left side with the same screw and it holds tight. The right side could not catch on anything solid so I when there's another good day, I will probably try to make a spacer and mount the bottom right of the amp to the seat.

I extended the wires the other day and they are a bit too long. But I'm going to cover it up with some wire wrap from Best Buy. The velcro stuff. It's black in color and I don't know how many feet long. I think about 3 feet. You can cut it down to size and just wrap it around the wiring to cover up the mess. I will get pics once I install the wrap.

I had to install the amp on the very bottom like that because of my strut bar. The capactor is mounted in front of the amp. Screwed down to the spare tire cover. Then the speaker sits in front of that to cover up the amp and cap.

Now I have alot of space to put groceries in...hehe

Ignore the blue electrical tape. I have it there temporarily till I get some zip ties. Lost my bag of zip ties!

There's the wire wrap you can get at best buy.

The bundled up wiring looks thick cuz I have 4 and 8 gauge wires. I extended them a little longer than I wanted but that will allow me to move the amp to another location later if I ever need to. For now I'll stick with that..

I need to vacuum the trunk now.. hehe

Oh, the amp was too big to mount on the side plastic deal under the strut tower bar..

Might I suggest a couple of pipe clamps around your strut brace to hold the sub box in place? A little padding will protect the finish, and it'll provide a little security for the whole system. You should turn it around so you don't punch a hole in the diaphragm throwing something in the hatch.

I've owned my 90 CRX Si since 2000. I've always had the speakers pointing towards the rear glass. It hits harder. Didn' have a problem with anything punching a hole in the speaker. If I was to punch a hole in one, I'll just buy another.. hehehe,, thank god wife works at Best Buy.

I'm going to get some "L" brackets to hold down the speaker. I haven't had a problem with the speaker moving though. I guess cuz the bottom of the box is wide and the carpet to carpet isn't slippin. but I'm still gonna put a L bracket on it because I do take some corners!

clamping is a pretty good idea, but the strut bar does flex a little. Also, if I needed to put something in the car that requires me to put the seat down, I'll need to remove the bar and speaker. So I don't want to make things more comlicated =)

Man that blue tape sure does show up well.. I gotta change it real quick!

I think it'd sound fine. Pointing towards the rear, the sound is hitting the plastic on the gate with no direct sound hitting the window. The back of the seat is harder then the plastic and you'll get better sound reenforcement off of it. I think the plastic on the gate would just resonate too much.

TomiGunz, it must be nice to have an "in" on getting equipment? I'm jealous. It's disappointing to hear that the ASpec bar flexes. That tells me two things: 1. The Fit needs a rear strut brace, and 2. I shouldn't buy the ASpec strutbar because it's not doing it's job.

When my equipment goes in, I'd also like it to be easily removable for when I need the cargo room. But I also want to be safe in the event of a crash. I don't need any projectiles slapping the back of my head.

It flexes a little because I have no tighten up the strut bar enough. Also,, because the bar is not rectangle, and it's really long!, it will flex a little. The front bar does not flex at all. Besides that, man it works awesome.

The rear plastic, i'm sure resonates a little, but you have to think about what's behind the plastic framing too. METAL. Which the sound does travel up to the glass. I'm not saying your idea is bad or anything, It's what I think...
