removing front pillar trim??

I got a universal auto-dimming mirror (with compass & temp gauge) to replace my boring stock mirror but i'm having troubles running the wiring down the front pillar. Has anyone tried removing this piece successfully without breaking any of the clips? I know there's an airbag in there and i have to disconnect the battery. The manual I have suggests using "a handy removal set or equivalent". Thanks.

I was able to wire my GPS through the driver side pillar by gently pulling on it from the door jam. I simply pulled the black trim out which leaves a small opening. My wire only went to the small corner window.

I am not sure I would want a wire running all the way through because if the aire bags ever needed to deploy the might get caught on the wire. I did not want to break a inside clip by pulling on the trim. It is secured very tightly and I, like you, could not find a safe way to remove it.
