Bad Scosche kit...Pics

So I don't usually just bad mouth a product. I may have to change my feminine products or whatever. But here is a short list of dealings with the Scosche kit.

First, I tried and tried to call, e-mail, pigeon post, Jon from Schosche to get in on the GB. No luck. So I called last week and ordered it. I SPECIFICALLY asked for HAAB, the antenna adapter and the guy said I don't need one. I told him I am SURE I do. So he said ok. Said, "it is $19.95 but I will hook you up for $10." That stuck in my mind so I remembered ordering it.

Then the kit gets here. Goodie. Well, the wiring harness is here and I called about the green wire with the white stripe. The guy at tech support didn't know. So I spent 2 hours searching the net and found that it is the VSS wire. Super!

Then comes the ol "You have to modify the screw posts" thing. So I did that and everything fit decently. It was getting dark so I was somewhat happy. Tested the unit. Tested the ipod function, DVD, NAV, radio, etc. Well, just test fitting, I found that the top edge doesn't want to play nicely with the car. NO!! There are NO wire harnesses preventing it from going in there. It is flexed out naturally. AND it looks like someone took a screw driver to pry it...WHICH IT WASN'T ME as that side would never go in.

The color is kind of goofy too...Granted the flash makes it weird. But I mean it IS different than factory.

Right now I am just upset over the whole process that I will just wait until the morning to mess with it. I am tired...This is crap. Enjoy the pics.

well actually the flash makes a HUGE difference with colors. if you paint (or mold) another color that is IDENTICAL to another piece of plastic, u will see a color difference w/ flash BUT u won't see it to the naked eye. If he took pix in the morning w/o the flash, u wouldn't see such a huge color difference.

Damn that sucks man that gap is not acceptable (granted that i have 3 cars w/ 3 schosche kits, all fit beautifuly). I really want the schosche kit but now that i see so many fitment issues, i think i'll wait a couple months before i upgrade just so the kinks n stuff get out.

That was the fitment issue i haven't taken a photo of yet. I thought maybe the clip isn't long enough, cause it flexes out since it doesnt `pop` in properly. Hmm, someone wanted to purchase my second kit. but I think i will reconsider selling it. and wait and see.

The fitment issue on these are interesting.

Well here is the update. I Frankensteined the factory radio. The clips that Scosche provided LOOK the same but apparently are NOT. I pulled the right side clips off and the thing went together easy.

Some notes since it seems like most took their kits to some place to get installed.

-DVD/NAVI units have LOTS of wires! :P
-As CuteBoi pointed out...You HAVE to cut 2.5-3mm off the bottom two posts. Look for his post on how to fit the kit. I didn't want to beat a dead horse.
-The color with the flash is off. But yes, in daylight, it looks pretty spot on.
-The factory A/C control stickers are more grey in color versus Scosche's black. (Can live with that..just posting so people know)
-The the fitment! As stated above, for the right side, I used the factory clips. Scosche's aren't the same although looking they appear to be. After intstalled and snug, there are noticable SMALL gaps and SMALL lips. You can go down the dash with your fingernail and get it caught where it meets the kit. Also, on the left side, look at some of the other installed pictures, there is a small gap going down the vertical seam. The little plastic cover on the bottom of the A/C controls, you can definitely feel a lip there.
-If you are using the Scoshe wiring harness, two notes: You have an Orange/white striped wire. That is your dimmer. You have an orange/black striped. That is your dimmer ground. Ground it! You have a green/white stripe...that appears from looking at the service manual, the VSS wire. So far, the AVIC-D3 reads speed fairly spot on. Then there is a black/white stripe which I have no clue what that is.

All in all, I give this kit a B-. I was going for the ol C+ but the NAVI unit looks good in there and takes your eyes off of the imperfections. I would recommend this kit in a month or two once they change a few things for all units, single and double din. Right now, I would only recommend this kit for a double din DVD and/or NAV unit as the stock stereo is decent and fits perfect...a single DIN isn't worth it.

I hope Scosche takes this as R&D and not bashing. While I think that they will make the changes and focus on their QC more, I think that people should learn that a NAME isn't always the best thing. I would have been, at the time with a Metra kit as it has been out for a while and I am sure the little things have been corrected. A first run of this kit, and the bandwagon that everyone jumped on, including me, gives it a little more to be desired.

Anyway, good luck to everyone with the kit and hope it works out better.

i got to see a metra kit today, and it looks good, but the material, like always, is not as durable as the materials used in the Scosche kit, i give them props for their always durable kits. just wish this was built better and tested better.

Yeah...The first run batch would probably be the one to give issues. All in all, I have faith in Scosche as a whole to correct the minor issues that cause such a headache, unfortunately for us, this is probably one of the more frequented Fit forums out there and we are a niche market, so, we will be the guinea pigs.

This will hold me over for the time being. It would be nice to get a revised kit in the future. We will see.

Any other issues with the kit?

My installer is scheduled for 11am tomorrow (Wed). So far, we have heard the following on fitment issues:

1. shave 2-3 mm off the bottom posts
2. use the factory clips in lieu of the supplied clips

Any other advice on the install out there to capture all known fitment issues?

That's the only issues I had. The fitment and finish of mine was better than the pics Kris put up.

You may want to either thread the holes in the radio bracket or use self tappers with a small washer. There are two factory bolts that bolt into the stock unit. These didn't/wouldn't fit on my double din unit. I instead used 2 self tappers and small washers to secure it.

Other than that, I would say you are good to go.

:(

Alright, I got everything in and the fitment is not that great. There is an obvious gap in areas between the kit and dash. The top right corner is also buldging out instead of sitting flush to the dash. The color is also off...with or without flash lol. I am using a single din unit and the surround plate that came with it for the headunit is not color matched to the rest of the Scosche kit. It is black so it does not match the little pocket nor the rest of the kit.
