Shift Boots

I just wanted to make a thread that is dedicated to shift boots. I have been seeing everyone raving about the $100 Mugen boot that looks like a shiny limp dick. I wanted to go a different route, and with my experience with Accords I've always been able to take and Integra Type R or Civic Type R shift boot and make it work.

This however is not the case with the Fit. I guess I'll live with the ugly OEM boot til I find a better alternative.

i think some have used the new civic Si boot. the red stitched JDM itr or ctr boots can work with some fab work to them. does anyone have any pics or a diy for any of these boots? i dont like the mugen one either, and i hate the oem one.

I give you an A for effort, but it doesn't look finished, I didn't like the way that I'd have the boot fit all the way out to the edge of the ring instead inside.

thing is that boot is so much taller and it would look baggier and better if it wasn't tucked in so tight

You know...I dont actually allways prefer the boots that are the fabric variety...
I find them many times to be counter intuitive with regards to the interior styling of the vehicle.
I really dig the rubbery "cv" look to the Fit's, its clean and modern, and seems to really jive with the interior.
Come to think of it this topic has kinda got me thinking....hmmm....
the boot only has like three simple tabs to screw in...so...I would imagine it would be relatively straight forward to install any custom configuration.
Like from another vehicle (if it is not too short or narrow) or your own design...hmm....
GREAT! JUST GREAT!...another thing to keep me bothered in my spare time! oh...I guess its good that I have alot of spare time!but really

I like the Fit boot, its just not my taste, for what I want in my car. There are more ways that I could make the CTR boot fit, but I really want to be able to see the silver ring the way it is with the fit boot. I suppose its just my particularities coming out. I had my accord for almost 7 years and learned after the first 6 months not to halfass things and do them to your standards or else you'll just do it again.

i always thought the rubber accordion look of the fit is more retro than modern. but that doesn't matter, i've always like rubber boots like these, and i think it flows well in the fit, along with the lever that controls air recirculation.

My old 1984 Porsche 911 had a rubber boot.

Rubber boots rock.

a few comments.

the factory rubber boots imho look excellent, just change the knob.

the gap you see on jdmchris's boot is fine. that's typical of how
someone that motors their car would have it cause your pinky
would rub against the leather when you shift and wears it out.
i personally prefer the gap..and i have it setup that way on my
FitS's rubber boot with an aftermarket knob. feels great.

here is how my other car's knob is setup. it's pretty, but functionally
i need to be careful not to rub my hand against the boot often and
keep it well treated with some Griot's LeatherCare. TWM used my pict
on their site. check the very bottom pict. it's sporting a MOMO boot.

I may just be extra dense today...but...maybe I am not seeing the same boot you are with regards to the CTR and TEG R could you send me in the right direction...or post a pic? Its not important...I am just curious...
I am an SFX model maker and sculptor and sometimes I like to just wrap my head around a spatial problem or creative idea....I am also really bored today... ...
so indulge me if you would like...
its not a sewing prob is it?

I guess your not understanding quite what I'm saying. I know that the gap between the knob and boot is normal, I prefer there to be a gap there, I'm running the spoon knob in my Fit, and the gap isn't so big. The gap I'm talking about is the gap between the boot and console, where the boot normally touches the console, illistrated here.

circled in red is the area I'm talking about, that was the only way I could think to install the CTR boot and still be able to use the silver ring, unless I were to put the boot around the ring and use the ring to hold the boot down

and to the poster asking about the Teg R/CTR boot, is the same boot in this picture, its a black fake leather boot with red stitching.

oh i see wat you mean. now that you pointed it out, it does look kinda
weird.

for that, i'd cut off that inside part of the ring so that the boot can
be flush to the decorative ring, and then make a inner ring (inside
of the boot) to extend out the boot to the decorative ring.

you can probably use a piece of plastic to make that inner ring...
i was about to recommend bamboo. lol

I really like that idea of cutting, it that way, I could make an inner ring that still uses the factory screws that hold the ring to the console. I may have to do this now
