Interesting situation: missing speakers (get stock, or upgrade)
Interesting situation: missing speakers (get stock, or upgrade)
Here's the situation:
I recently (last weekend) picked up a used 07 Fit with very low miles (3900) at a great price (compared to other used ones). It was priced low because it had been involved in a collision. The damage was to the passenger side, probably both doors. No major frame damage, although I believe one of the airbags probably deployed (from the dusty substance everywhere).
The body was repaired and painted, and looks great. Whoever did the bodywork and paint did an excellent job. A couple things that are a little odd...
The spare was apparently deployed, since it was loose in the back area. The hold down and tool kit are missing, but the jack is in there. The owner's manual was missing, and the hooks that hold the floor mat on the driver's side are gone.
Well, I found today that the speakers in both passenger side doors are gone as well!
I'm laughing about it, because I got the car for about $2k less than other used 07s are going for around here.
So anyway, the cable is hanging in there.
I'm wondering... should I order a couple original speakers, or take this opportunity to throw in some aftermarket units? My budget would be relatively small, maybe $100-150 for all four... or I could buy a pair and put the nice ones in the front doors, and the OEMs in the back.
Input? Suggestions? Will replacement/aftermarket speakers possibly have a socket adapter to plug right into the cables?
TIA

OK, I just went over to Crutchfield and ordered two pairs of Pioneer TS-G1641R speakers. Crutchfield is great! They throw in the speaker bracket and wiring adapters for free!
I think I might pop the driver's side rear speaker into my front passenger side in the mean time. I did take off the passenger door cover... man, it was EASY.
I'll post a review once I get them in. I'm sure it will sound better, considering the only speaker on the passenger side now is the little tweeter!

Here's what I would have done if I were you:
Remove the stock speaker from your front drivers' side door, and put it in the rear door that was missing a speaker. Then, I would've gotten a new pair of components for the front doors. I would've used these:
Phoenix Gold RSd6cs Component Speakers
And of course, you'd need an amplifier to push them, so I would've gotten the Profile 400SX from here:
Profile
So there's 150 before shipping. Grab an amp kit from Wally World for ~20 bucks and you've got great sound for under $200.
I hear Crutchfield has a good return policy

Jman's suggestion is also a pretty good one..
do you know any junk yards around orange county/LA county that would have newer cars including a honda fit? the ones i go to always have really old cars, there's never anything i want to take from them.
The RSD's are excellent and cheap!!!

No idea. I'm a NorCal transplant. Back home in FL I could think of a few but I'm no help out here.
