Speaker Recommendations

Seeking any and all input on a good set of components for the front. I'd be pushing them with a separate amp @ 60 watts RMS and balancing them with my existing JL sub. My budget is around $300 including professional installation.

Thanks!

I always like the alpine type-S components for a lower budget setup. They are great quality, ring real nice, and can put out.

I just installed Infinity Kappa 60.9s and they sound awesome. Only drawback is the tweeters are quite large, so I bought a different set of Kappa tweets that are a lot smaller. Look in this section for my thread. And its not hard to install speakers, do it yourself and save.

I like Morels. They have budget models that sound decent. silk domes for a softer response. The Tempo line is their budget offering.

Budget Expectations

Geez, I didn't realize speakers in that price range were considered "budget" parts!

Maybe I should ask the question a different way: What excellent quality speakers should I look at without going completely nuts? It's just a daily driver, not a competition car or anything.

Depends on the music you listen to and how you play your music. Do you like really sharp highs or a smoother response at those higher frequencies? 60W RMS isn't a ton of power, and it depends on if it is clean power.. there are a lot of factors you need to take into consideration when choosing the "right" set, and not the set that makes the sales guy the most money.

If you like sharp highs, look for a titanium tweeter, if you like smoother highs look for a cloth or silk dome tweeter.

If you want a lot of mid-bass, you need to look at the driver specs and properties... Alpine Type-Rs are good for mid-bass, where as something like MB Quarts will be more of a sound quality driver.

Personally I really like the Infinity Perfect 6.1s, but I think they may be out of your range price wise.

You've also gotta look at mounting depth too.. if the 6" driver is too deep, then there's really no point in looking at them..

Check out JL, MB Quart, Alpine, Image Dynamics, Focal, Infinity, and Kicker.. but like i said.. u need to figure out what sound/setup you want..

You may want to consider a coaxial set with a seperate crossover included.. the factory tweeter location in our cars is technically too far away from the mid-driver.. the general rule of thumb is to have the tweeter no more than 6-8" away from the mid driver.

If you are looking for a good sound and a really good price, look at Pioneer speakers. I have used them for many years and they sound very good as well. I have Infinity a shot last time I bought speakers and really love the sound, so I am sticking with them, even if they do cost more than Pioneer.

Pioneer and infinity make good inexpensive speakers, however they are not eve in the same league as Morel or Focal.
