radio and other electronics installation questions

OK 2 thing. First, I cant even remember what it was like stock, but does the lever for recirc or fresh air slide all the way to both ends stock? Mine doesnt seem to slide all the way to the left, but I think its still working properly.

Second, when adding accesories, is there an easy way to tap into the fusebox? I ask because I am thinking of getting an HD tuner, and it needs power, so would be ideal to be able to get it right from the fusebox somehow.

There are add-a-fuse wires you can get. Then just pick a spot in the fuse box that does what you want. Ign on/fuse on, Ign off/fuse on, lights on/fuse on, etc.

Our vent slider goes all the way to the left or right.

Yeah, they're available at any auto parts store. Just look in the electrical section for a "Mini add-a-fuse circuit"

I found one of those at the local parts place, but its only rated for 10amps, that kinda limits what it can be used for.

That should be enough for anything except an amplifier. Amplifiers should be hooked direct to the battery so they don't overload the factory main fuse.

Yeah was just looking at the HD tuner I bought, only requires a 5amp fuse, thought it would be more, so guess I am good.

on mine, the fresh/recirc stops about a quarter inch short on each side. On the left, there a noticable change in the feel like it fell into a notch or something.

Will do. I actually only ordered it today, so hopefully have it next week sometime. I also fixed my hot/cold lever. The few times I recently had my radio out, I guess that cable wasnt exactly in the right spot when I clipped it back into its holder. I was moving my XM hardware tonite so while the radio was out I fixed it, back to operating the way it should again.

I'm not sure when it happened...after the HU install or after the LED HVAC mod...but the fresh/recirc knobs don't go all the way to the left too--it used to go all the way to the left. Planning to pull the dashkit out & see if it can be fixed. The fresh/recirc works ok though.

Exactly what was happening to me. If its the same issue, super easy to fix. Pop that purple cable off the connector for the door and out of the clip that holds it in place. Attatch it back to the door first, then push the lever all the way to the left, then push the purple cable back into the clip. Same goes for the other blend door controls. Orange cable for that one I think. Its basically because the cable was snapped back onto the clip while it was not all the way to one extreme end of its travel. If yours is the same issue, its less than a 5 min fix. Now I just gotta glue the covers for the fresh/recirc icon on since they keep falling off in the heat!

The recirc/fresh air lever when slid to the right leaves about a thumb-size space when fully slid.

FYI

Thanks for the info! It'll save me the trouble of having to remove the dashkit. Good luck w/ the fresh/recirc icons.

No prob! I think a dab of crazy glue will fix it once and for all, not a big deal at all.
