tweeters that fit?

Does anyone have a list of component sets that will fit the factory tweeter opening? I read a post of a certain infinity set where it didn't fit but he purchased a separate infinity tweeter that would. I was trying to avoid that.

That was my post. I dont think you are going to find any tweeters that will fit behind the door panel as the stockers do. If you want to avoid getting extra speakers like I did, Infinity Reference components will fit. The tweeters that come with them are the same size as the Kappas that I bought. I had Reference speakers in my truck so I know they are the same size.

The ones I have in now, were basically surface mounted, but I did have to ever so slightly make the opening in the door bigger. if I had to put the stock tweeters back in, I dont think you'd be able to tell that I had to modify it at all. The stock ones kinda clip into the opening, and then are held in place with screws from begind that screw into the grill. The clipping action probably was lost with making the opening bigger, but the screws would still hold it.

Boston SL60's fit fine. Morel MDT 30's would not with out a ton a fabrication. But they are a large formt tweeter anyway.

I modified my car so long ago I don't remember the opening exactly. I would say any 3/4 inch soft dome tweeter would be a great addition. My doors aren't anywhere near stock/factory any more.

What's your budget?

I'm looking to spend about $150. Any sugesstions? So far I think I'm going with infinity because of the sensitivity. One of my complaints is the stock system isn't loud enough. I'm worried about install...Never done it and not a natural. I've done a few hu's, but all in mustangs which I was very familiar with. Would ordering from Crutchfield help? Good instructions, wiring adapters, etc..?

not really a fan of infinity... they have harsh highs and lack midbass... if you're looking around 150, try the phoenix gold rsd's, those are a very nice budget set. Crutchfield would give you what you need for the headunit.

The Infinity rating is high because there are some frequencies up high that have peaks, typically 3-6db louder than other frequencies in the spectrum. Because of this, they are not smooth overall, and as stated, sound harsh.

And in Brooklyn, people listen to bullet style tweeters with their Behma's or EV's and think those sound good to. Sound is subjective, to each their own. When I post in regards to sound, it comes from about 25 years of experience. If Infinity works for you, so be it. When people listen to my Fit and leave the car, they experience something they have never experienced in a car before. Dynamic, quick attacking linearity with detail that most people wouldn't ever have in their homes let alone the car.

just about any 1" tweeter with an inverted dome will fit behind the factory grille. I have TN52's behind my OEM grills. (tweeter from Focal 165K2P component set) you have to shave away alot of the plastic from behind the grill, but they fit in there
