Testing in an inclosed area with FM would yield little to no difference since FM signals have a very hard time going through objects. Only AM is relatively uninfluenced by things blocking reception, but it's also a lot more limited in distance it can travel.

Thumbs up I know this is an ancient thread, but....

I put on a Toyota Matrix antenna the other day. My AM reception is really improved. When I go under an overpass the station does not complete cut out, although I still hear a little static. For $10, it is a great mod if you listen to talk radio.

I'd love to know what can be done to improve FM reception if anybody has any suggestions, I don't think it's very good with the stock antenna.

I used the Matrix/Vibe/Jetta/Golf/Pretty much any hatchback made in the last 8 years not by Honda antenna for a couple weeks, mine was off my mother's Vibe. Reception was slightly better but nothing really to write home about. If you're really looking for some better reception though and looks aren't an issue to you, the antenna on the Saturn Astra, while it's the same style as the Matrix/Vibe, it's at least probably close to 24" long. The Vibe antenna was around 16".

Yeah they look horrendous on the car but I'm sure the reception is pretty good.

Now I'm running a 2" Perrin Super Shorty, it's awesome.
