Base Audio Upgrade Help

Could someone start a Audio Forum on the Fit Trix link. I got the base model and because the Saleman didn't know the product so well, I thought I could play MP3's on my CD (wrong) that's a sport model option. I really didn't know that they still made CDs that didn't play MP3s. I'm ashamed of Honda for even installing one that doesn't. What I want to know is how to how to install a mini stero jack so I can play my own MP3 player through the AUX in.....

Base Fit Audio upgrade

I had the same experience when I got a BMW a few years ago...
Salesman stated that the CD Player would play mp3 CD's.
Later I explained the difference to him between an audio CD and mp3 CD.

It is possible to hook up an aux input to the base audio unit, but not incredibly easy.

here's a posting telling the story of how this guy did it....

Honda Fit Aux Jack installed! - sowbug.org

just don't do as this guy did, using an ethernet cable for your audio feed. you can buy decent wire at the auto parts store. you could also probably find some connector prongs to use to secure to the pins on the audio unit in a solid way. If you really want to do it, take your time in the car and at the store.

here's a link to the Honda music link accessory instructions, which shows how to remove the audio unit itself...

if you want to install the aux input jack assembly as on the Sport model, you can buy the part from the Honda dealer, or use these guys...

Genuine Honda Accessories, News, and Information from College Hills Honda

they also have free podcast videos on their site, showing many DIY jobs. This one shows how to remove the center console.

these guys are awesome ! !

oh, and here's a link to a service manual

body and audio section

if you look at the honda parts catalog link on the collegehillshonda site, click to continue, select the specifics for a Sport model to take you to parts listings, then click on the console button in the list of different components to bring up the console which has the aux in jack part number.

I know that in your shoes, I would be doing it... but beware if you are not mentally prepared for it ! Your local pro stereo shop might be able to hook it up without problem for you, with the right experience and know-how.

Good Luck, and keep us posted on what happens.
