Need some basic help with sub tuning

Added my old sub to my new '15 Fit using the stock HU and the kicks are too overpowering for my taste. The sub is that thin profile sealed 12" from pioneer.

Amazon.com : Pioneer TS-SWX310 12-Inch Shallow Series Preloaded Enclosure : Vehicle Subwoofers : Car Electronics Amazon.com : Pioneer TS-SWX310 12-Inch Shallow Series Preloaded Enclosure : Vehicle Subwoofers : Car Electronics

The amp is a Kenwood 300w RMS

I'm not the kind of person that likes mega bass but want to hear the baselines in electronic music, not the kicks.

I'm sure I need some kind of additional hw to equalize it but not sure what I should buy. I'm on a low budget so no bit one or ten... maybe $50 range?

I don't think a 4 or 7 band eq is going to do what I want.
Thanks.

In your case it comes down to the enclosure. If you want some deep bass from heavy synthesized music then a small, sealed box will not be your best bet. A decent sized ported enclosure is much better for your application. No DSP or crossover will help you in your quest unless your amp is set improperly. Custom box would be kickass but probably out of your price range.

But for now....
Low pass Crossover should be around 80 hz.
Subsonic filter should be off if the box is sealed.
Sub should be facing the rear of the car or down-firing.
Filling the box with some poly-fil should help get you some deeper bass but you may not even notice a difference.

Pre-fab ported box by Bassworx might be your best bet if you're on a budget.

I actually had the highpass the filter set too low. Cranked that up all the way and it is much better. Lfc is set at 25 since bt a2dp cuts it off at around 20 testing with a wave generator.

The new problem is the stock head unit filtering the low end starting at 80 i think and fades to a cut off at 20. What do I use to bring up the low end past 80?

That is an acceptable range. Where have you tapped your speaker output from?

Front speakers. The lower range fades out it might be higher than 80, not sure.
