but i am saying if the signal lead to the relay falls out, it will still hit metal, ground out and short the ecu..

The wire that I have tapped into the ecu wire that goes to the relay that will be "live" is soldered and heat shrink wrapped to the relay pin (as all the terminals are) They are all wrapped together as a bunch of wires in it's own new custom harness. It's as professional a job as you can get! That's what I do for a living!

i would pay for a DIY kit like that if all it takes if for me to tap into the ecu wire.. if you cut and mesaure all the other wires and do all the solder work :-)

It would seem kind of redundant to have that light on all the time though.

Hey is that LED light really bright while driving at night? Is it adjustable wth the rest of the instrument cluster?

I like that it closely matches the stock blue color but I turn my instrument display way down so that it's harder to see me through the window tint at night..."tactical driving"!

I guess with a higher ohm resister and a smaller LED i used 5mm we can have a less brighter light. But you have to see it first then determine.

I will be doing more studying the VTEC engagement and disengagements today. Will report with daytime video and pics also.

You can make it with a less bright light, put it in a less visible place, change the color of the LED, it's not "redundant".

I look at it as a guage like any other. You have engine temp guages..(well the fit doesn't really) for information purposes. The VTEC light is a guage for information as well. If you drive easy you won't go into VTEC and your fuel trip programmed by the computer will more lean, hence using less gas.

On the highway, you can set the cruise control for the highest MPH without Vtec comming on ! Saving gas!

It's a very purposeful guage in my opinion!

it would be sweet to have a circuit board made.. so we get VTEC light as well as a shift light in one pack

It would be really cool to put the LED in the blue FIT dot...

So, now that you have this, can you confirm that VTEC is always on (or off?) while cruising at, say 75 mph?

Blue FiT dot would be cool, but there would be glare on that slanted piece of plastic! (Plus that would envolve taking apart the instrument cluster!

If your RPM's are over 3400 no matter what gear you are in, VTEC is on and will not turn off over 3400 rpms.

Now since I have a M/T and the gears are different, I can tell you that I can not go over 68 mph or I will be at 3400 rpms.

I was trying to figure out the MPH for 3400 today - I couldn't tell for sure whether it was just at 70 or a tick below. Thanks!

I wonder if I can keep it below 68 for a tankful to see how it affects mileage?

Are you also a manual transmission? the Automotic has a different gear ratio and is at a different speed in its 5th gear.

I took apart the drivers' instrument cluster and other paneling, drilled a 1/4 " hole for the LED socket, and wired it up behind the dashboard tieing up the wires with Tie-wraps. Of course soldering all connections! (All for under $30)

IT's nice, there is also a slight audible click from the power relay when VTEC engages and the signal is sent to the light bulb.

More info on how the car operates tomorrow as I drive it some more and take nitice of things. As well as daytime pics and more videos! Stay posted!
I don't suppose somebody could get some pics if they plan to do this.. id like to see a nice pic by pic DIY
