Help! Brake problem

I've had my '07 Honda Fit for almost a year now and when I was driving the other day it started to screech. At first I thought it was a belt in the lower left (if your sitting in the drivers seat) of the engine compartment. I checked, and everything seemed fine, but still the screech.I listened more and realized it sounded more metallic than a belt, which led me to believe it was the brakes on the lower left tire. I took off the tire and checked everything out, and it seemed OK. The problem came when I spun the rotor. It rubs with the pad even when the brake isn't applied, and I believe this is casing the screech. I have had a few people who are pretty knowledgeable with cars (no mechanics though) tell me that the pad and the disc shouldn't rub, at least not enough to physically slow the spinning to the degree that it is happening, when the brakes aren't applied. Can anyone offer me any assurance to whether or not this is the noise ? And if so does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it ? And if you believe this is not the noise, what could it be ? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advanced for the help.

Godspeed

Your brake caliper probably just got stuck up. It's happened to me before.

Not sure how you fix these in the US, but over here, there are caliper repair kits that do the job. The fix ain't so expensive either.

Let us know what happens.

Sometimes that dust gaurd picks up a rock and makes that sound. Try pushing the dust gaurd away from the rotor and see if anything falls out.

no, what you are hearing is the warning. if you check the pad closest to the caliper piston (engine side) you'll see and peice of metal that is bent in half. when your pads get low, that metal piece starts to rub/screech on the rotor...time to change the pads.

I have had a few people who are pretty knowledgeable with cars (no mechanics though) tell me that the pad and the disc shouldn't rub, at least not enough to physically slow the spinning to the degree that it is happening, when the brakes aren't applied.
that is wrong. they do rub regardless if the brake is not depressed

the pad at the bottom of this image, and in the box has it

Greetings, it is possible at you brake overlays from an inside were erased, threw on metal rubs and from here and a gnash sound. Be not afraid check up.
Metal plates as on a photo are put overlays for a heat-conducting path and reduction of heating of disks and their fast deterioration.
