Odd Tire Size Experience?
Continential ContiSportContact 2 - 195/40R17 (Thread Renamed)
Anybody out there using a 195/40R17 tire?
Better yet, is anybody using this tire size in an attempt to fix an ongoing rubbing issue with a 205/40R17? My big question; Did it work?
I only know of three brands in North America that make and distribute this spec; they are (listed from cheapest to most expensive)
1-Continential (ContiSportContact 2),
2-Hankook (Ventus S1 EVO K107),
3-Pirelli (PZero Nero).
If there are some I have missed availiable in that spec size please post them up, also comments regarding these brands & specific tire model are apprecaited too.
Cheers!

Bump! Nobody running this size?
I am going with a set of 195/40R17 Continential ContiSportContact2's.
Turns out my el-cheapo Lexani 205/40R17's were horribly offspec and pushing the maximum allowable tolerance of physical size. Infact they were larger than a 215/40 in both width and diameter. They came for free with my rims, so I guess I can't complain too much.
Anyway, once I have the new tires installed I will take some pics and review them. My car is running Tanabe GF210's, so I will be testing to see if they have any rubbing at all under heavy loading and cornering. It is my mission to be able to do the "dukes of hazzard" thing with my car and have zero rubbing

Good news!
I am now running the 195/40R17 Continential ContiSportContact2's with the Tanabe GF210 springs; excellent grip and road noise is definetly not as deafening as the Lexani tires although still present (then again, this is a performance tire so that it to be expected anyway).
Did some basic load, bump and corner testing. Happy to report with 850lbs in the car, it has absolutly zero rubbing over bumps, dips or corners. This has completly solved my rubbing problem

I would highly reccomend these tires both as a performance upgrade and to solve pesky 17" rubbing problems!

Bump (to my own personal thread
)
Some good news if you happen to run 17's and need to get rid of the rub bug. A new brand has opened it's doors to the 195/40/17 size.
Currently the list looks like this.....
1-Continential (ContiSportContact 2),
2-Hankook (Ventus S1 EVO K107),
3-Pirelli (PZero Nero).
Welcome a new member to the wonky odd tire Family!!
4- Yokohama S.Drive

The new S.Drive 195/40/ZR17 is the CHEAPEST option for this size of tire. I highly recommend this size to fellow 17"ers who run less than a +45 offset to avoid rubbing!

so with that being said i havnt rubbed at all.
but im going to switch over to federal ss595 for 60 bucks installed each thats a steal!
im tire tucking btw, and thinking about going lower...and have no issues whatso ever with rubbing.
these are mounted on a 17x7.5 45 rim

It also has a slightly lower profile than a 205/40, the 195/40 is closer to a stock diameter.
