S-drive hydro?
S-drive hydro?
so last couple weeks here in SF is been raining hard, i been hydroplaning when i go over puddles of water they where somewhat deep puddles too i think, going around 30-45 MPH. Just wondering if anyone else with S-drive tires are having the same problem? they only have about 7k miles on them size are 195-50-15.
i drive slower when it rains hard in certain roads that i know that will have lots of water built up.

woah... i was about to place an order for s-drives thinking they
were suppose to be pretty good (looking at the reviews at TR)
for a dd.
btw, wat psi do you run at currently?
typically by 100miles (or 5miles for me.
) the release
agent has worn off so it shouldn't matter too much especially
by 7k. it's broken in.
keep us posted.

If you look at the test results versus the reviews on TR you'll see they weren't terribly impressed by the S-drives wet traction. I had AS430s (predecessor to the S-drive) on my Jetta for a while, water skis had better hydroplane resistance.
Just a bit...
Kodo,
I did not experience hydroplaning when the tires were new. I did however, notice a bit of hydroplaning on my 195/55-15 S-Drives for the first time this year. Most likely, this was due to the fact that they have over 20K on them, and that they are worn to the indicator bars.
I just ordered a set of 195/50-15 S-Drives to be shod this Friday. I'll let you know if this set hydroplanes any more or less than the 195/55-15s. I doubt if the aspect ratios would make a difference though...you think?

man the tires only lasted 20k for you? mine has only about 7-8k and still some good life left in it.

AutoX tore up my set really fast...
If you want your tires to last, don't AutoX them. I only made 8 runs and I figure that I scrubbed off about 1000 miles of treadlife per run. BTW, they stuck really well though.
Check out my run at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds event in Stockton using the S-Drives:
YouTube - San Joaquin Fairgrounds AutoX 10.18.08
I have since gotten a dedicated set for AutoX (Kumho Ecsta V710 195/55VR14 mounted on Kosei K1 TS 14X6 rims).
