Unhappy New wheel bearings...ALREADY?

I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this, but today I had to have the wheel bearings replaced. I bought the car used in Dec., at around 4378 miles, it now has just under 5400 miles. How could they go out so quickly? I drive the same 45 mph route everyday on a well paved road for only about 9 miles, and on weekends, go only 1/2 mile for groceries (occasionally a little further depending on needs). I'm trying to save money, so I'm home most of the time and rarely use the car. I started hearing a rubbing/grinding noise about 2 months ago, took it in to be checked and they thought I was being paranoid since the car is only a 2012. Today they found the noise and I stunned when they told me what it was. They said it would have cost about $300 each to replace had it not been under warranty. Is this a common problem for these little cars? Now I'm worried this is going to happen again...

I have over 8500 miles now. Nothing wrong here. Only thing these cars truly need is better ground wiring from the battery to frame and a bigger alternator voltage wire. My wiring killed off most dimming and seemed at the time to make the car run a bit smoother overall. placebo most likely, but Im still very satisfied with this car. Plus it drove over 3500 miles in a two week period (home for the holidays) and was comfy.

It is a rare occurance to have parts fail on a newish car, but it can happen......reminds me of a story I heard. Some backyard mechanic working on a lincoln navigator dropped a screw through the intake and ended up starting the suv.....long story short it got auctioned off so possibly some poor bloke is probably driving that thing around not knowing its engine was thrashed inside....

Bad wheel bearings were a problem on older GD models and the warranty period was extended for them. But this is the first time a GE (your model) has reported a problem. Maybe just a bad batch. Keep your records together in case this happens again.
